308 and spark plug help

engine had 7 liters of oil in????
drained and flushed with nulon engine flush
engine stoped dead while flushng...wont start....
spark plugs are black

what happened???

Motor shouldn't just stop because the plugs are black..
Plugs being black mean it's running rich or oiling the plug up, from the pictures it looks more like the plugs are covered in soot, which means it's running rich.

Was the motor idling when it stopped, or revving?
Did it cough then die, or die INSTANTLY?

What is the number on the plugs? I can't make the code out.. is it BP5FS?
If so, the plugs should be fairly well suited to the motor.. You could go upto the 6, but i think a carby tune is more important.
If those plugs are just sooty, not oily - the soot would burn off in a short period of time while revving if the carby is tuned right. We were running the race car so rich at idle that it was going as dark as that in seconds, then burning clean as soon as it revved.. we've changed things a little lately for different reasons.



When you took the 7 litres out did you check the dipstick before hand? was it above/below the full line?
Is the oil milky in any way?

If it is a 5 litre sump and you had 7 litres in it, it is very likely that the other 2 litres was water.
If you ran the motor while there was water sitting in the sump - eg. after the motor had stopped and the water settled at the bottom - It is likely that you pumped straight water into your big end and main bearings. We have had that happen in a race motor and within 2 laps it has windowed the block (sent a piston out the side)
I'm hoping this is not your problem, but until we have more information it's a little hard to judge the severity of your problem.

i find running unleaded without flashlube in the fuel causes the plugs to soot up.

MOTOR WAS REVING ..SEEMED TO LOOSE POWER AND STOPPED..

have a look at the water in the radiator, if it looks oily its liekly a head gasket.

The fact that the oil level was well over the line usually means water in the oil, it will sometimes remain a normal colour if it has only just mixed the two together.

The best thing you can do it drain all the oil out and fill with some diesel oil and a bit of diesel fuel to try and flush AND lubricate the engine, as the motor will start to rust if it has water mixed thru the components.

If it just coughed, then spluttered, then died you may not be in too much trouble, if it stopped dead at 3,000RPM, you've got a motor to pull down

it didnt stop dead....
flushed the engine out with nulon engine oil flush...
it turns over now but very slow ..with the plugs out...
i,ll check the oil in the morning to see if it full of water..

WHAT IF IT IS?????

just rembered somthing..
the inlet manifold was bubbling.....noticed water coming out of one of the bolts near the carby????
is it stuffed...
