Unless you get a tank builder that is certified, then an engineer only needs to see their certification sticker, may be a bit dearer, but by the time you save on the engineer it can save you a lot of headaches.

Just remember that fuel tanks need engineer approval and you will find it extremely difficult to get an engineer to approve a tank that they didn't see being built.

Does that apply to fuel tanks bought online from parts dealers too? I.e speedmaster?

If the donor tank doesn't work out, try Richie at Vudu Customs, he gets flown around Australia to do aluminium welding for all the racecars and boats and is based in Dandenong. He modified a boat fuel tank for a friend and did a terrific job. His number is 0412 906 628.
