Qs For Ian.
« on: September 02, 2010, 09:50:08 AM »
Hi Ian, mate i have some Qs for you. I  have been looking at some more of your pics, the drivers seat, is that an air seat, swivel, it looks like a truck seat. And is that an air - con under the glove box, can you get some real good close ups of the air con and seats for me. Being an amputee i am still looking at ideas for my drivers seat to help me get behind the wheel again. Thanks mate.

Hi George, been reading the Monsoon shield posts hence sorry to hear about your unfortunate circumstances although good you have a positive attitude, To answer your question George the Bostrom (Viking 303) are Truck seats (kab is another brand) although they use a shock assorber instead of the Compessed Air trucks normally use, which makes them perfect for our situation, they are fully adjustable for different weight people and come standard with the arm rests, If you think of an office chair with all the adjustments then these have more! only the passenger side are swival, including the rear seats are swival
The Airconditioner is actually an aftermarket underdash Unit (Came with Compressor) you used to get from an Auto shop such as Auto one, supercheap, repco ect, Mine is called a Galaxy 32 which I vented to the outlets in my Dash, give me a couple of days & I will download some images to my Gallery for you to peruse,  Hope I have been of some help george & may catch up with you one day,     Many Regards  Ian

Thanks ian, appreciate the info, i am also looking at one of the bostrom seats for my van. The one i am looking at is air operated and has every thing you could wish for in a seat. What i had to look for was swivel, and trying to get it as low to the floor as posible so i can slide onto it without to much effort. The other was to get a comfortable height for driving, all this does not come cheap, but it garrantees i will be able to cruise in my van again. I look forward to your pics as an added guide.

Thanks hotrod, this is exactly how mine will be, in this position i will jump on, so to speak, spin it forward and lift it up to the right height.

Hey George, What we used to use for a swival base is a ford transit Van rear axle which comes with a floating wheel bearing, just cut the diff housing from the outer bearing to the hight you want and just make up a locking mechasim, or buy a bostom with one already installed,  Ian

I went to seats-R-us a month or so back, and these days the swivel part is as cheap as $200, and you just bolt it between seat and base. The other thing is they are safe and approved by qld transport. Unfortunately there are a few things that are going to cost me, but if i want to drive my beddy again, then its a small price to pay. My hand controls are almost $2000 each, thats the way it is when you are an amputee. You can run with it, or sell the van and stay at home and vegetate. My wheel chair was $5,500 what do i do, stay in bed, my chair  is my legs, my van is my freedom. Trust me, the chair is nothing special, just a plain old push chair. mmm
