fuel consumption
« on: August 11, 2010, 02:29:24 PM »
gday guys.ive recently bought a beddy camper.she weighs in at 3 tonne.running a 186 with 3 speed auto.it plods along nicely at about 80k's.we have driven from perth to home ,which is about 140 k's.the truck chewed through aprox 35 litres of fuel.the roads were good, mainly flat and no head wind.can you please let me know if this is comparable to other similar vehicles as i am thinking this is excessive.thanks for your help.Al

I think motor wise you are well under powered for a camper of that size, your foot must be down all the time. A 3.8 V6 or V8 would allow you to ease up on the foot and get better litres per k's and ofcourse better power. The problem may also be the diff ratio whould not be as high as would be ideal.

I have a camper, look in my Gallery http://www.buga.com.au/index.php?option=com_gallery2&Itemid=8&g2_itemId=5273 it runs a worked 202 and 3 speed Trimatic overdive box, but I am changing it to the 3.8 V6 , easy for parts and cheap to buy. Use the VN-VP motors as they have the T-700 Overdive auto.

Even tho, my Beddie is for sale; I can see that you are way under-powered. Poor old 202 tryin t haul around almost twice the weight that it was originally designed t do! And; what diff ratio?

My point here is that mine is 3.8 lt V6, still only returns between 4 & 5 ks t the lt when towing my race car, which would put me up near the 3 ton mark.     My opinion, V8 on gas!!! Cheers Brian O
