Hilux 5 Speed box ????
« on: June 06, 2010, 11:50:19 AM »
Hey guys been ages since I've posted on here. Just about to start some more work on ugly betty and was wondering has anyone fitted a 5 speed box from a 2wd hilux such as the 22R/RN85 model 1990-1995 series. I only ask cause I drive one as my day to day driver and it has over 300,000k's on the clock and seems as strong as and has good highway speed. They would be more readily available then the celica and supra boxes and should be cheaper to.......Any one done it????

Cheers in advance Wayne

Yes I've read somewhere of it being done, and you're right, they're almost indestructable.
Its a shame the rear axle doesn't fit, as they go forever too.

They are basicaly the same as supra good strong box use a redline, crs bellhousing, holden pressure plate, toyota clutch plate or hilux if you want heavy duty, speedo cable from toyota rt104 and hydrolic or cable clutch to your liking
make it reliable, or smash it with a big hammer

in the old days l would use a set up from an old ek holden with a hk clutch line, this days it proberbly be easier to buy a kit

hk go into the bellhousing , were ek goes onto the bellhousing. My mate drills the little hole  in them to change the ratio, this makes it lighter on the old foot. l know it works but l've never done it, another way is to use a larger master cylinder than the slave most jap things have a small slave  making it lighter
make it reliable, or smash it with a big hammer
