Goodbye Beddy
« on: June 03, 2010, 02:27:49 AM »
Hi all, well after 22 years I've finally decided to say goodbye to my Beddy, oh the times we had. Anyway I know it's a bit early for this as I'l be keeping her till DECEMBER when she runs out of REG.
But I'll be in Jindabyne from July then Melb in october and driving back north via coast and syd if you want a look, but I'll be keepin her till November/December to get my stuff home or will I??
I'm posting this now just to see if there's much interest in her coz I'l gladly drive her pretty much anywhere in Australia if you buy it and cover the gas and a cheap flight or bus home depending how far you want it,( I have a mate in WA I'd like to visit) I'm not kidding I'd trust this beast to make it no problem.
I was doing her back up to keep for another decade or two or do my dream and turn it into a 4x4, but I just got a brilliant deal on a 4x4, so to the disbelief of all family and friends the beddy has to go.
Good points.
New Gas/petrol conversion. $2120 16/9/2009
Excellent blue/black 202 motor,no smoke,plenty of go. $200
Highway borg warner diff, reco'd 3 years ago(bedford stud pattern) HQ slaves. $500
New Koni gas ajustable front shocks. 6/2009 cost $380
HQ disk brake front end. $300
New disks and shoes 6/2009 $100
HQ upper ball joints and control rubbers both sides, one beddy lower ball joint 6/2009 $160
New windscreen 10/2009. $350
4 speed gearbox $350,
Brand new clutch,pressure plate,machined fly wheel. 5/2010 $270
Hydrolic clutch, reco'd master and slave cylinders. 5/2010 $180
Ford bronco Alloy bull bar.$100
NOTE TO ALL: I'm not adding this all up and expecting to get anywhere near that amount, basicly the best offer by the end of November will get it, i'll post again here and on EBAY in november if it's not sold by then.

Now for the bad pionts.
There will be NO road worthy or reg going with this car.
The body will need work to get back up to scratch(a little rust but mainly other stuff)  so getting it for the parts is the way to go.
But if your really good with tools and got the time and place the body can be fixed.

Also I'm up for swaps,I could do with a decent 90hp or bigger boat motor? Cant think of anything else I'd want right now but try me, you never know. ::)

I wont be on the computer much from 20th june till November
but you can email me on (danvanman69@hotmail.com) and I'll check my emails when I can and get back to you.
Cheers. Dan

I'll take photo's tomorro(if the rain holds out). of all the bad body stuff and post them.
I didn't want to go into the body stuff but over the years I've welded in plates everytime I've fixed the rust, but I'm not the best finisher so under all the rough crap is steel. I'll dig up some old bodywork photo's as well.
P.S I forgot to mention the new lower control arm nolatheen bushes I put in 2 weeks ago. ::)

Hi again Buga's, I feel a little foolish :-[ but after driving the new toy( 1990 excellent condition Nissan GQ) around for a week and jumping back into the Beddy and noticing how much faster/better fuel acconomy/small turnig circle and so much more room inside, I decided to put 4 new tyres on her and started welding up the rust again and sound proofing her. ;D Sooooo it looks like I'm gonna keep her for a little while longer. But for the guys in W.A that show'd a bit of interest, I'l probably be driving it over there to visit my mate sometime over the next year, so I'l let you know if I do and you can sus it out if your still interested. But to tell the truth if it's possible that I can 4x4 the beddy, I'l probably keep it and sell the runnig gear here.  I'm torn between two worlds. :-\  I look under both and can see it can be done. GQ Beddy.... If there is anybody in Northern NSW or south east QLD that has a shed and would be interested in a project 4x4 Beddy, let me know. ::)   Were have the old 4x4 Beddy's gone? Does anybody on this site have one?  Does anybody know the legallity's or cost of engineering cert's to 4x4 one? Do you have to be rich(wich i'm not) to be able to afford to 4x4 one?  Should I stop dreaming!!!!!!!  ???

Good to see youve seen the light :D

As for 4x4ing the beddy it depends on how you go about it, I think (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) the earlier 4x4 beddies used 4x4 F150 running gear mounted on the beddy chassis, were as some of the later ones have been a boeddy body grafted onto a 4x4 chassis.

This means that it is a rebodied 4x4 and has to comply with all the regs that the 4x4 does.

Fit like the fioo's on hq 1 tonner chassis, they are still considered one tonners.

Have a search on here, I think ShaneJ was going to go down the beddy body on a GQ chassis path.

my advice dan, go 4x4 beddy. I have at least 2 other projects after my van is done, but then i will be doing a 4x4. As for cost, if you have a van then good. You can pick up F100 chasis cheap now, so if they are the right size frame then so long as you do the right body mounts for the chasis and it is achored together then thats half the battle. Just remember the one thing i learnt not so long ago, whatever is fitted to the F100 has to stay on and be active on the finished van: ie air bags, disc brakes and engine emission gear, so on, you have to upgrade and not down grade. I am still trying to find 2 people to agree on what chasis will fit under a beddy, so when that happens i will be one step closer.  GO FOR IT DAN

Tell me guys, who owns the silver and green 4x4 beddy's, i assume these a recent pics.
george.
