W.A Rego
« on: June 02, 2010, 12:10:37 PM »
This is for the w.a guys. I have just heard a story on the news, they say that wa cars do not have rego stickers, they are talking about scrapping stickers here because all of a sudden they can not get the glue to stick. I recon the way to solve the problem, would be to scrap rego altogether. lol  ;D ;D You have to wonder why after 20yrs the glues dont work all of a sudden. mmm So what happens on your side of the world guys, how have they replaced the sticker for I.D.

WE used to have labels, but now we have a label that slides into a plastic cover, sits bottom left of screen
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

Kimbo is right, the police over here have more advanced computer systems in the cars than the police over east..
So if we were to travel over east, we'd be potentially hassled non stop by not having a rego sticker as the police over east would then need to use the radio to get in touch with someone that has access to the national database to verify the registration..

All this to save $500,000 a year.

Funnily enough they state on the Dept of Transport website that WA now has 1,000,000 registered motorists.. so do the math.. i'd happily pay an extra $0.50 each year to retain the rego stickers purely for the ease of travelling interstate. But i guess in 10 years time when the rest of the country catches up with the wild west it'll no longer be an issue..

hey matte, kimbo, about 12months ago we got the first of a fleet of smart cars, police cruisers that are fitted with a set of cameras fitted to the front of the cars. As the cruisers are driving around the cameras are grabbing hundreds of rego numbers a second, running the plates through an onboard computer. If the plate comes up as stolen, or out of rego or involved in an armed hold up, there is an audible and visual warning that comes up on the screen and the cops can get all the info from the computer. The only time they need to use the radio is to call for backup, or to talk to a watch commander. We still have a lot of the old cars, but most now have a basic onboard computer for basic stuff, but at a million dollars a smart car, i suspect it will be a while b4 all qld cars are smart. not so long ago we were selling the smartcar to the LAPD, as a Pontiac. I will see if i can find the mag with story an pics, and will post. The cameras and computer is so good, 1 camera grabs plates another grabs speed, another grabs surrounding footage, and the computer processes the whole lot faster then you can blink. A cop mate showed me one of the cars a while back, let me say, kitt and micheal knight would of loved it, the electronics are awesome.

George
WA Cops have the same in some cars an d computers they have to type rego in in others.
There was an article in todays paper talking about the number of cars being put off the road for non-payment of rego & fines etc so they must be doing OK with them.
On another note, I had just started to think there were a few decent copt in WA after chatting to them during the regular stops I get in my beddy, but last friday I got pinged for street drinking which put my opinion back to where it was.  I was offered a beer by a homeless guy I bought a burger for, and got a $200 fine for opening it.
