no heat from heater after gas conversion
« on: August 17, 2008, 06:19:01 AM »
ever since i have installed gas on my van a couple of weeks ago im not getting heat out of the heater.. i dont have much air flow cause of the xc grill does not line up with my modifyed heater cowling.. will make a new one out of fibreglass when marty teaches me how to glass..

its enough to take the chill of things in the freezing but i still get damn cold down here in vic..

my temp guage stays on blue cold also.. so i asume the thermostat is stuck open yeh? ive used a couple of different temp guages not just electrical, mechanical also to check its not the guages also..

so what i guess i look there first huh.. ive got holden 6's laying around in the front yard, grab a different thermostat and see if we see some results yeh?

Yeah I'd be checking the Thermstat! Does it take ages to warm up in the morn before you can get going?

Hi Ben.  We have gas on Alien8  and the gas converter has water running through it, extra hoses coming off the motor to the converter.  This is a silly question, :-[ and you probably have had a look, but have the heater hoses been diverted from the heater to the gas converter unit.
If the heater was working before the gas was installed, and the beddie temp hasn't changed, maybe just maybe the heater hoses now dont go where they used to.  If everything was working correctly before the gas was installed it could be something to do with the installation. As I said a silly question :-[  :-[ if I have made a fool of myself trying to help then tough, its not the first time it wont be the last.
Nothing is impossible it just takes a bit longer

Hey ben, after you've checked the thermostat.....
I found that with the gas fitted all the hot went through the converter so the heater never warmed up.
The heater hoses came off the passenger side of head next to the thermostat housing.

I gave that to the converter only and took hoses to the heater from the drivers side of the engine (water pump inlet and thremostat outlet?)

I got the thermotsat housing and water pump housing from a pick-a-part as mine didn't have the hose fittings in place

Worked a treat ;) if it wasn't dark and rainy i'd try and get a photo for ya.

hey cheers for that worzel.. yeh i had that in mind when i was installing the gas.. i tryed to dirst the water to the heater more than the converter.. so it hat tee junction like about 100mm away from the thermostat housing.. yeh a pic of your setup would be rad. cheers
