If you're impressed with the speed on ubuntu on your old laptop, check out PCLinuxOS LXDE, it will fly.

Ive done a partial install of ubuntu on an old work laptop to have a play and it seems to speed up the old girl.

Its my first time playing with it, but Im gettng sick of Vi$ta andamthinking of deleting it of my home lap top

Work is still all MicroSoft based though.

Might have to give it a spin Shane

George there are only 10 type of people in this world - those that understand binary - and those that dont :D

Dont you mean 1001

Obviously your on of the ones that dont :D

Warren

Binary runs from right to left with the weighting doubling each time, the selection for each can only be off or on or 0 or 1

8421
0001 = 1
0010 = 2
0011 = 3
0100 = 4
0101 = 5
0110 = 6
0111 = 7
1000 = 8
1001 = 9

A bit of a diversion.. but today we got loaned an external HDD full of a terrabyte of stuff. When I went to plug it in it wouldn't spin up.
I pulled it apart and found the smd diodes on the pcb of the SATA HDD had shorted. I pulled a couple of diodes out of a dead ADSL modem and repaired the pcb. When I pluged it in and had a look, the newest files were nearly 7 weeks old.
Do you think I was a setup?
I am now copying the files off and I reckon I will give it back and not say anything.

A tip is that if you get a SATA HDD that won't spin up, check the diodes near the power plug. I have repaired a few and saved a lot of data that would have been lost.
The problem I have is that most of my stories end with... and that is why I am not allowed to go back there!

Isn't that what backups are for?
