i have been gathering gas tanks but im going straight gas...

i did have twin 70L (fill) tanks but someone bought that mini van that i mentioned months ago that i had a accident in. they wanted the gas setup for it as they intended to put it back on the road. so i was back too one.

so a cousin that i have been helping out gave me a free tank (80-90L fill) and i don't see how they cannot be put underneath???

plenty of height under the beddies compared to some of the cars i see getting around with tanks behind the back axle that are almost touching the ground...

i was going to fit the larger one where the petrol tank was and then relocate the battery and put the smaller there...

are we saying that could be illegal?

if it is i will have to go with plane B (if i have to have them inside the van) and have them under the double row of seats i plan too have in the back....

hi able, why is it illegal to have them down the side, [underneath] but not across the back ? [underneath] is this just more stupidity from transport ? I may have to rethink a couple of ideas i am considering.

Able

Talk to a gas conversion joint re positioning, I dont think either of those locations you mentioned are illegal so long as they have the sheilding.

But I'm no expert - so thats why I say tak to a conversion place.

hey guys in answer to the under slung tank i can answer you (i am a licensed gas fitter) according to my aus/nz standards the tank should be 200mm above ground level and must be 200mm from centre line of oe bumper or if no bar fitted then 200mm from body extremity  hope this helps     cheers Neil

Hey Merlin, are you still permited to have them inside the van?
make it reliable, or smash it with a big hammer

thanks Merlin!

one or two questions though....

how much of the work are you allowed to do your self?

what i mean is... can you re-date and mount the tanks and perhaps buy and mount the mixer and just get a fitter to run the copper, filler tube and wiring on a car that has previously never been fitted? or will they see this as a big no no and get all "im the bloody expert and i don't like you saving your self a $1000" on you?

and is there a specific size and thickness on the above floor plates? the ones you place on top of the floor and bolt over?

and is there a limit to how much gas you can run? can i say have the 90L, and 70L and perhaps put a donut tank or 60L round in the spare wheel area as well?

hey able, unless you know your stuff i would spend the dollars and let the guys in the know do it, the last thing you want is to turn your van into a rolling time bomb. Thats just me mate i am a paranoid about gas. lol On the news last night LPG is now being taxed, 20% or so, when you add $2000 for install, gas could be as pricey as petrol soon, but it had to happen.
