where to get parts?
« on: April 30, 2010, 09:51:36 AM »
Hi
I need to do brakes and suspension.
The brakes need total overhauling including drums.
the suspension needs all the rubbers replaced and I want to add a sway bar front and back to level it up a touch through cornering.
power steering would also be nice if it is available.
where can I get parts from?
is there a list of suppliers?
What about wreckers?
I am in Melbourne
Thanks
Steve

Steve

In another post you said you had a "Brick" possibly based on a CF(S) does it have the cabin or is it a winebago style full coach body ?

The reason I ask is the the CF vans have a sub chassis that is an integral part of the body and the CF trays (from my unerstanding) use the itegrated rails under the cab and chassis rails after that.

Do you have an "I" beam or an wishbone style front end this might help you determine whether it is based on the CF or som othere Bedford Truck chassis.

What part of Melbourne are you in because that will have an impact on the answeres you recieve.

As Bedfords of any type are rareish nowdays, and most have been butchered to some extent  most places wont have a clue what your talking about, but the best way to deal with this is go to a good local automotives parts store with the bits you want to fix/replace as a lot of brake and suspenion bits are interchangeable between different manufacturers.

As an example those brake slave cylinders might be found in a ford or holden sedan etc.

Pictures will help us better identify your van so open a gallery and post away.

The van is a full coach built unit like a Winnebago.
the front suspension is independent wishbones
the chassis is a one piece item and is  stand alone.
I live in South Morang but I will travel to wherever I need to go for parts.
thanks for the help Warren. Pics will be posted shortly.
Steve.

OK Steve waiting on some Pics.

Although if the frame is "Stand Alone" it may not be a CF, unless some one cut away all the cab.

Hope we can help more once we see pics.

I am hopefully going to get it up on jack stands this weekend to start running break lines and wires. I will definitely get some chassis pics. Is there anything in particular I should try to get?
thanks again

Rear suspension
I talked to my dad who originally bought the chassis during the late 70's I think.
He said it is a CFL 3500 weight. I don't know if that is any assistance.
I will try to take more pics of the chassis once I get it up on better stands.

Steve

The good news is that the front end is definitly a CF, but the motor looks to be sitting higher and further forward than in the vans.

So parts for the front end shouldnt be a problem.

Thanks Warren.
The motor is fitter to a 4 speed, non synchro box which was probably OEM. apparently it was a 4 cylinder and first a 161 was put in. That probably explains the location.
So where can I get parts for it? do you know of a wreckers who do bedfords?
