Buy, or DIY.

When I bought Boudica for $3000, there was another beautiful Beddy for sale with everything done for $8000.
Too much I thought......But I have now spent considerably more than that and heaps and heaps of time.
If there was a next time I would look at someone else's finished project.
Do others feel the same?

Its all ways advisable to buy someone elses project.
You never get all your money back from your own project.
It also saves time as well as dollars

Jeff,

The buy option gives immediate satisfaction but it's just not the same as looking at
something that you created with your own 2 hands...

I recently completely rebuilt a motorbike and now I just look at it... hahaha
It turned out amazing! There is no way that I could have bought it in the condition
that I brought it up to but even if I was able to I don't think I would.
I have never had that feeling before and I am longing for the next build/project when time
permits.

If you need to get an instant 'fix' then go for the BUY option.
If you want that 'never ending' sense of satisfaction, be patient and DIY.

Financially buying someone elses project is generally cheaper BUT as I discovered when I bought our 2nd last hotrod no matter where you go someone says "thats Bob's hotrod"
Doesn't matter how long you have it or what you do to it "thats Bob's hotrod"
so both ways has it's +'s and -'s
Allso easier to find 15000 in dribs and drabs than 10000 in one hit.

Well, I have always bought cars/vans/motorbikes that I have had to do work on. Apart from 2 new cars and 1 almost new motorbike.  Have always had fun doing the work on them. Never have enough time or money to finish them as quick as I wanted, but that life. Ist car I restored was a 1922 Vauxhall 14/40 tourer took about 3 years to finish it.  Got a big buzz out of driving it first time, only cost me $20. heaps of work sold it eventually for about $5000.  The motor bike, total rebuild, had a ball riding it ,sold it at a loss.  Alien8 bought it with all the easy roller gear on it. Had it painted and Kathy and I helped another beddie owner to do the interior. Refurbished the front end, with Kathy's help. Don't know how much we have spent but who cares, Kathy loves driving it.   Now the Chev, now thats a different matter, Bought it in Vic, helped local panel beater to convert it left to right, help with the painting, didn't do the first interior professional  people did that, new brakes and gas on it. Then foolishly had a look at the bank balance, missing that close to $35000. it wasn't funny,  Not finished at that stage, way past the point of no return just keep on going.  Had a good time driving it, going to the Nats. Tried to sell it, but thought I should redo the interior just to spruce it up.  Shouldn't have started the new interior on the Monday before the Caboolture Nats, so took it to the Nats and showed how interiors are done.  That has now been sold, only took 18months to sell, sold that at a hugh loss but it has been an experience.  I think you can get more satisfaction out of doing it yourself (even if you do get some help )than buying someones else van. The finished produce will  have your signature on it. I'ts good to be able to say "I did that" and the best part is that you will learn heaps about your van.

well i was going to buy the new nissan navara stx diesel for $46990  drive away  but then i saw the bedford for 3k and thought to my self if i spend less than half that on the bedford i would have a very good runner and the satisfaction of building it myself  and doing it properly

yes mate for sure if the works done right its worth the extra cash spent, mine has had heaps done & i got mine for a steal on ebay & just the engine mod would have costed more than i paid alone.
