http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Local_Shared_Object

http://www.imasuper.com/66/technology/flash-cookies-the-silent-privacy-killer/

Flash cookies are a new way of tracing your movement and storing a lot more information about you than with normal cookies. One major disadvantage of flash cookies is that you can’t locate them in your browser. They are not shown in the list of cookies that you can see when you take a look at the cookies that are currently saved in your web browser. Normal HTTP cookies can’t save more than 4 Kilobyte of data while Flash cookies can save up to 100 Kilobyte.

Flash Cookies, which are also known as super cookies or Local Shared Objects, should not be confused with normal cookies that are placed by websites. Normal cookies can easily be deleted from within the web browser. Flash cookies on the other hand are much harder to come by. They can store more information than normal cookies and are used for advertisements, tracking and flash related information like high scores or video controls.

hey marty, i dont go to bad sites either, but i somehow end up there, its when all those pages start poping up, and wont delete. buga. For some reason I attract viruses like a magnet. unreal. Just one reason i dont do any banking online. Itunes are the only online transactions i do. why these scumbags need to send out viruses i do not know. Just imagine how great the www could be without viruses.

i run ( being "very serious" icon inserted!) a free anti v called AVG wot automatically susses out any tracking cookies an bungs em straight into a virus vault where they can do no harm  unfortunatly mcafee norton anti virus progs are always targeted due to the fact these comps are "in bed" so to speak wiv microcock, no no  i meant softcock, no no i meant microsoft   :P i have used AVG for prob 5 -6 years wiv no hassle an she be free. . . or one can install linux mint which has no viruses .an it also is freebee.. u just have to learn  the OS  if u only browse the web its easypeasy... even the wankytank sites are ok . . .uuum  so i am told   ::) i tend to think MS is resposible for half of these so called lurgeys just to generate finacial gain for them an their scummy associates. their greed is unfathomable in its deceipt. i have a very low opinion of them . . even for a kangeroo.  :-X if anyone wants to try linux mint.. happy to send youse a copy ,you can install on half your HD an choose which one you want to boot from then as at times i still hav to use microintegrity for certain things..

LSO, they store information and send it back home, what information depend on the LSO, and what THEY think they should know about you.........
personally   I don't trust them. >:(

this is a good starting point for basic security.
I trust these guys, (but avoid the adds)
