yes i think if you welded a frame around the edge then welded your braces to thet it would b strong enough..with a clear roof it would be better to have a slight bubble then u wouldnt have vibration and it,and it  would have shape so it would have strength i recon lolol with the pop top its going to be easy just cut it out leaving a flange then put it in like a normal window..

hey arron, I have asked about this in the past, so now i will ask you, could you build a replica v8 or v6 motor or block for setting up engine mounts and the like ? When i asked about it last time, it was could i buy a plastic or fibreglass one, well i checked, and no one in oz sells them. We are getting ready to do my mounts now, my mechanic is looking for an anchor at the wreckers, but i would still prefer a plastic one, so is it possible to do one using your process.
George.
yes it can be done but still alot of work ...make a mould out of fiberglass it would have to have numerous joint lines so it can be pulled apart to get the engine block out and to make the final fiberglass mould out of it..either way you will still have to use an engine block to make the mould ..but i can see why you want it..for the weight..so yes george it can b done lolol

nah what i was thinking, because i have a mould i made off a roof in fibreglass i was thinking i could make another mould for a plastic roof, so right down to the gutter line will be see through.. was even thinking a clear bonnet would be swarve.. one day:)

I rekon your onto something with clear engine covers man..
You could make standard ones and then you could make one off your custom cover - Ben.
That would just be the 'ducks guts' for show vans I rekons.. LOL too cool

There have been a few vans that have had acrylic engine covers (the beast had one, maybe only for show purposes)but they were made in seperate sections that were joined/glued as apposed to moulded. I can't see that there would be enough 'stretch' to mould a one piece engine cover.
would be a bitch to keep clean with all that road grime coming up
If you like it do it, If you like it a lot do it a lot!

on a clear engine cover how would you insulate for heat and sound ? as far as keeping it clean hotrod you could use tear aways, like they do in f1 for their visors lol  ;D ;D

Hey guys, i did a search through my ext hard drive of 7000 + van pics, i knew i had seen a pic of a van called mystic fantasy, i think it was a 80s van, and they did a clear see through perspex engine cover. Thought i would share with all. If i'm inacurate on any of the vans info, i'm sure others may be familiar with the van.
