hey ben, would make for one awesome sun roof lol the whole roof as a sunroof, now thats something i would buy. I saw a show called street customs, yanks, they did that to a truck that they customised, and they had a company that specialises in those roofs, the problems they had were enough to turn you away from doing it. they were pros. just the construction of the mould would take one of us weeks or months to build.

i have a questoion hotrod or anyone that knows about building moulds for perspex..

is there a product you can use for the face of the mould that can be poured on it and set. bit like fibreglass.

cause that would blow your mind...

you could make moulds off my engine covers, roof, bonnets lots of cool stufgf then reproduce it in clear perspex:)

firstly thanks very much for the great coments on my windows much apreciated..the windows are made out of high impact acrylic and are very strong, and yes you would b able to sctatch them but they can b easily buffed out not like polycarb witch canot b buffed.Iv been a patternmaker in the plastics industry for 23 years now and have made mould for just about everything you could think of in plastic and yes you can make just about anything out of plastic if the moulds are right...if the moulds arnt rightyou will wast alot of money on sheet especialy acrylic and polycarb because being transparent it will show up every mark and dust partical..yes ben it is possible to make components of fiberglass parts as long as the part is strenghtend up corectly and contracton added because the acrylic does shrink..also holds alot of heat so nooo air bubbles but if you need any advice ill be happy to help you also it sounds like craig nows what hes doing as well so more input the better and youll get it sorted im sure...also id be happy to mould any components you want to try..as for the roof idea guys im def going to do that iv been toying with the idea for ages now for my poptop but like a painters house whos house is never finished my van will never be finished lolo and there is only a few spare hrs in the day and my wife wont let me sleep in the shed..thanks again for the coments and if anyone isnt hapy just let me no ..thanks

hey arron, I have asked about this in the past, so now i will ask you, could you build a replica v8 or v6 motor or block for setting up engine mounts and the like ? When i asked about it last time, it was could i buy a plastic or fibreglass one, well i checked, and no one in oz sells them. We are getting ready to do my mounts now, my mechanic is looking for an anchor at the wreckers, but i would still prefer a plastic one, so is it possible to do one using your process.

hey mark that would be an awesome roof, it would definately get some attention. Q. would weight prohibit it being made, it would have to be really thick to stop it flexing and bowing, because you would'nt want to put in roof braces and spoil the look, or would you still need to install braces ?

I'm no engineer, but I think the beddies need the braces for structural integrity, and just in case your roll it - you would probly want some structure there...dunno tho....what do others think????

If you were going to do an insert like the van above and not replace the entire roof you could build a frame for the clear panel to sit in and then weld the remainder of your roof braces to that or perhaps have 2 seperate inserts, front and rear, and maintain the structural integrity that way.
