Has anyone got a pair of original front seats for a 77 beddy. They need to make an engineer happy.

Hi Grumbles, why do you have to go beddy seats, I used VH in my van, my engineer told me to use Hi-tensile bolts on everything and he was happy and i only spent $10 or so, and up untill 2 weeks ago when we pulled them for the sandblaster, they were as good as the day i fitted them.

every engineer wants something different, just like every road worthy bloke.. i got declined a roady cause my seats are obviously out of a sedan because they recline with a tab rather than a twisting knob!!! oh well.

that engineer is a dickhead ;D

you need an Approval Certificate, possibly not even from an engineer(an approved approver? might have to be an engineer,
but people have used the figure $130 for cert.).

http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/Home/Registration/PermitsModificationsAndDefects/Modifications/RemoveAddReplaceSeats.htm

Replacing seats
An Approval Certificate is not required for a replacement seat provided:

    * the seat is offered by the manufacturer as an option and is replacing and existing seat
    * the original seat mountings are used
    * appropriate seat belts are fitted.

An Approval Certificate is required if:

    * the replacement seat was not offered by the manufacturer as an option
    * the vehicle was manufactured on or after 1 January 1969.

Advising VicRoads
If the modification has changed the seating description of the vehicle or an Approval Certificate is required then you must visit a VicRoads Customer Service Centre with:

    * evidence of identity
    * the vehicle
    * an Approval Certificate, if required.

An appointment is not required.

and check out.....

 NATIONAL CODE OF PRACTICE
  STANDARDS BULLETIN VSB 5B
CONSTRUCTION AND INSTALLATION OF
 ADDITIONAL SEATS BY INDIVIDUALS
  Issue 2.0 - Revision 1.0 - January 2004
  Supersedes document dated December 1996

Seats from an Existing Vehicle
A seat from another vehicle may be used as an additional seat in another vehicle, eg the bench
seat from the front of a sedan may be installed in a cargo van to provide an additional seat.
The seat must be attached to the vehicle with at least the same number and size of fasteners as in
the original installation.
Where the seat is installed on a supporting frame to increase the height of the seat above the
floor, the supporting frame must be constructed of rectangular hollow section not less than
25 mm x 25 mm x 2 mm. The construction, including bracing, must be as set out in Figures 4, 5
or 6, depending on the number of seating positions provided by the seat.

Let me know how you go as i have transit van seats in the shed waiting to go in my roofless rusty beddy

I'm starting to think I am glad to be in qld. Here if the vehicle is registered for 3 seats, then you can replace them with anything from another car, so long as [ the seat is structually sound & the mounting of the seat is structually sound ie: high tensile bolts, washers  and nuts. ] When I fitted my 3rd seat the only other thing I had to do was make sure that both sides of the floor were fitted with 4mm steel plates. 50mmx50mmx4mm for the seat box to bolt to and seat to box. I have learnt to go the xtra step when I do mods, that way they can't say no. I can say that my van was always safe, no shortcuts. I also had no probs with VH seatbelts, so long as I installed like a factory retractable.
