GB

if this is the worst of your rust then it is easily repairable either with the way I suggested or even just a strip of sheet metal to replace the rusted section.

If you cant weld talk to Able, I think he would be happy to help.

the seat bases are exactly the same in both sides in my experience...

were you meaning to rossie there warren? i do have a small cheap gasless mig but im still learning and i have only really worked on my beddy with it.

it was rossie that offered assistance as i am not confidant enough to work on others gear.

i have to weld up one of my own seat basses as my beddy had at one stage a aerial just behind the front seats and it was removed at some stage by the previous owner before it sat waiting to be fixed up... my better seat base went to mezz when i swapped him for the double passenger seat and base.

Thankx I have been pm ing jimsvan and we are currently closing a deal Im very cautious of any mods because I had a engineer go over the van and he didn’t seem to want any mods eg original seats, wheels, pedal box etc, The 253 ,trimatic,9”diff all passed, Ive been told the seats are fine by others (commodore seats ?)  He wants the van on lpg because the 253 is out of a 74 hz no such thing it’s a 79 hz. If the motor is older than the car you need lpg. Mines a 77 so it doesn’t need lpg. I also need to make a fan guard, adjust a tierod, new seatbelts, get emissions test, noise test, axle weights, I no it needs a noise test but I don’t know about the emissions or axles, because it seems to depend on there opinion (the engineer)  So im a little confused, because some engineers have different opinions. Anyhow one step at a time  pete

Yeah Able sorry to get you and Rossie mixed up - Rossie's the better looking one :D

GB sound like you have a pretty fussy Engineer.

A repair to the seat base should not be a problem, you should be able to do it without anyone knowing its beeb patched, but if you have different seats (none original) that may be a problem.

Sounds like a lazy engineer to me. More mods means more work inspecting for him. I'd go find another engineer a little more sympathetic to your cause. He's taking all the fun out of modifying your van for you.
