Hey jimbo, do you know what happened, what caused it ? same thing happened to me in 01, I was leaving a meeting, drove out of the carpark and noticed a clunking noise, I to thought of a bearing, I drove home about 5ks, got out at home, and found all but one nut missing, some little magot had tried to lift my new mag wheels, I must of interupted them half way through, being on the left I never noticed anything before I drove off. Driving off and driving like that snapped off some of the studs. Broken studs was one reason I decided to go 4 wheel disc brakes, and from there I decidded to go all late model running gear.

yeh pretty much the same thing except i was reversing the van out of me mates drive way and i heard a clunk thought it was steering only till i started driving it slowly and heard metal scraping then i new something wasnt right so i went to stop and i had f*** all brakes so i was at the end of the street where me mate lives and thought na f*** this ill turn around and leave it at me mates joint till in the morning and get me tow truck driver i know well that only charges me 50 for a tow but when i went to turn round that when the left hand front gave way brock stub axcel but it also broke the calipar aswell have abit of panel damage i do need a new door and i think i may need to either bash or cut out some metal and put new one it doesnt look too good but brother is a beater so ill let him do the work, i will take a photo of it and add it to me gallery so everyone can see it also i did the hood lining i will take a photo of that too so people can see what i have done since i have brought it but i have decided tho still buying another van that has  a v8 in it 350 chev or 308 and ill just transfer all the shit over to mine but while im at it ill put all new bull joints etc in the front

Hey mate, thats not good news
I'm guessing that it is a disc brake conversion on the front, and the stub has snapped off?
Sounds like someone has had the stub machined, in which case i'd be having the remaining stub replaced too as it'll only be a matter of time.. and next time you may be travelling faster than you were this time..

But yeah, get us some pics, it not only helps describe potential problems, but also helps with preventions
Good luck with the repairs

far out lucky u wernt goin 80kms or higher,
did u say the stub axle snapped?
if so was it machined down for the disk brake conversion 2 be fitted?

if so weve had a big debate on this subject before .
where a member had the machined stubs and thought they were good and safe as.
but its clearly not good and safe as if thats the case,
let us know if its ok.

hey jim if you get a chance if you can take measurements of the stub axel width where the bearings sit (2, inner and outer) and also the diameter of the thread for the bolt on the end. if i knew these measurements i could tell you which stub axel it is and if its been machined and where.

ben
