« on: February 14, 2010, 10:05:42 AM »
Hi Guys, this is mainly for the Qld vanners, I was told through the week that there is a thing called sunday rego, for those that have hotrods and custom cars and only drive them on weekends or so, you can get this rego at a fraction of the price, has anyone heard of it ?  ??? ???
Regards

someone was asking about that a month or so ago but it was based on the date of manufacture if my memory serve's.

it was something like registered for 90 days or less if it was over 30 years old or something like that at a third of the price.

so someone on here was looking into that at one stage not to long ago.

The special interest vehicle concession

The Department of Transport and Main Roads understands that some street rods and vintage cars are rarely used.

Therefore, a registration concession scheme for special categories of vehicles including motor vehicles, motorbikes and trailers was developed based on limited road use.

The following types of vehicles with either right-hand or left-hand drive may be registered under the scheme:

    * vehicles that are at least 30 years old
    * historic ambulances and historic fire-fighting equipment
    * street rods (hot rods) — vehicles that have been modified for safe road use and have a body and frame built before 1949
    * replicas of a motor vehicle, the body and frame of which were built before 1949, that is fitted with a modification plate, code LH9.

Vehicles fitted with a modification plate, code LH10 are not eligible for a special interest vehicle concession.

Failure to comply with the conditions of the special interest vehicle scheme is an offence and serious consequences may result.
Download the special interest vehicle scheme guide (PDF**, 53KB) to view the conditions and requirements of the special interest vehicle scheme.

Hi Guys, I have just spoken to qld transport about the special rego, talk about red tape and BS. You have to be in a club, you can only drive if you are going to a show or testing, can only drive so many ks from home and so on, I think I will just go for normal rego, then I can do what I want when I want, without big brother. I said to him how is anyone going to now im just cruising, if I get pulled over, because of the plates and sticker. Bedfords are about freedom, so if I have to pay $600 a year to be free so be it,  this just enforces what I say, oz needs to really look at the custom car and hotrod scene, because everything government do here is to quash people doing their passion. oh well it was worth a try, this rego might be ok if you can live with the restrictions. mmmmm >:( :-\

Hi George....Im a member of a Morris car club here in W.A (Beddies are my passion now!) but we had quite a few members who had their cars on "concessional licence" which allowed them to drive on club runs and the occasional road test. These cars were generally show standard vehicles. The real advantage was if a member had more than 2 or 3 cars ,it was easy and affordable to rego them all.
cheers,,johnno ;D

Hi John, I just can not believe the sort of restrictions they have in place, I mean why should you have to go to the annual expense of club fees just to prove your van is a show van, maybe if the dipsticks in transport had a separate catagory for modifications, rego insurance for a show vehicle compared to a road car, then there would not be a problem. This is why so many people in their 4cyl egg beaters get booked for wide tyres or wrong flares and so on, because the only rule thats there is for the family car. Dont get me wrong I am not sticking up for the hoons and those that deliberatly flout the rules, but there is no garrantee I wont do everything to make a set of flares legal and then find the cops have different  definition of legal. But I guess if we had a family car catagory and show catagory, that would mean more work for transport, god forebid the poor little darlings should do any work..lol   ;D oops hope we dont have anyone here that works fore qld transport  ;D ;D

Thats like a contradiction of terms, using the words 'work' & 'transport' department in the same sentence - and its not just limited to QLD!!
