351 in bedford

was just wondering if anyone knows of someone who has done a ford 351 v8 conversion in a bedford heard rumours that it can be done

i don't know anyone that's done a Ford conversion specifically, however it's exactly the same a putting a chev v8 or anything else in for that matter.
It all comes down to the space required.. if you're talking 351 clevo then you'll need a bit of extra space over the windsor. you just need to give the motor power, air, fuel, and connect the cooling - make sure its mounted - and make sure there's a hole in the floor big enough for it

Get in touch with an engineer you'll want to have work through the project with you, as you need to know what they recommend, and what they demand of the conversion.

Ford v8's are a bit harder to fit because the oil pump is in the front of the sump causing clearance issues with the front end .You can use a Bronco sump but it would be tight      Cheers Neil

I had a 302 in a swb.
It was fitted with a bronco sump, I also cut a space into the crossmember as well(young and dumb).
No probs with the way it ran, I also used thermo fans.
If I had a choice now I would go back to the 318 chrysler motor.
I reckon it was made for a bedford.Got me to Mildura and back without missing a beat and passed everything with ease.
Had a 9"diff and drums all round. Bit hard to pull up.
But I reckon thats what I would do again.

PMU was the 318 an easier fit? ie: are they narrower than the holden 308?

I know someone with a 351 Windsor in a SWB Beddy. Gets used all the time as a tow car.

Hi, I have a 302 in mine, fits well and have had no problems so far.
the beddy I just sold back to chris ryan had a 307 chev in it fitted in well also

Not sure if I have asked you this before, but is it a carb 302 or efi? And what sort of economy do you get?

I'm thinking about a 302efi or one of the new Ford v6's.

hi shanej, amate of mine had a fairlane with a efi 302 in it.and he was getting about 9 to 10 lters per 100ks out of it on a trip from hamilton to wellington.

It went like a cut cat to for a big car and it was runing a 3.08:1 diff.
