Hi guys,

I've had Aaron's famous bubble windows for ages but every time I've attempted to find some time to have them installed properly, I have kinda hit a dead end with regard to finding someone who is willing and confident to install them...  A couple of panel shops just have not wanted to know me, and one place said "if you didn't get any rubbers with the windows, it just can't be done"!! Turkeys.. Anyway, does anyone have somewhere/someone they can point me to, who can cut 2 x round portholes (1 x each side)  and install those as well as my 2 bubble replacements for the standard back door windows?  I am in Melbourne. (Thornbury)

Wifey paid for the bubble windows, the Christmas before last (!) - (I have really dragged the chain on this!!) but it's finally time and I'd like to get it done properly..  Also, any ball park ideas on what
installation should cost me?

Your sagely advice would be warmly welcomed :-)

I dont have a name (sorry) but they are almost opposite the hammond road / cheltenham road t intersection.

hey disco beddie shouldn't be that hard as you know ,I reckon 4-5 hrs max, at what ever rate. side windows mark and prep 40min, cut 30mins fit both rubbers n windows n seals +clean up 1hr. rear windows remove old windows n seals 30 min, replace rubbers windows  and clean up 1hr . 1hr just cause you know it don't always go as planned,

the look on the service mans face when you mention Bedford.........Priceless ;D

Can I go play now...?

hey disco, any half baked sheet metal guy should be abl to help you. As for the rubbers, i would of thought a H rubber would solve the problem, should not take more then an hr once sides are marked out.

hey mate, i put all my windows in with no previous experience, it's not overly hard.
You'll obviously have to cut the holes first, what you'll want to do is measure out exactly where you want them, measure twice-cut once. you can pretty much trace around the windows when you've got the spot worked out right, but you'll need the hole a few mm bigger than the edge of the window, 3-4mm should be fine, but it has to be the thickness of the rubber, the more space the better.

As for putting the windows in, kero is the key. put the rubber in a tray of kero, brush some kero on the body of the van, put the rubber onto the body, then put kero on the window and start working it into the rubber. You really want 2 people, one inside the van and one outside.. i put 4 windows in fine, but the 5th was a bit tight, so when i jumped inside to push it back flush, the window popped out and cracked (Not happy). You'll find it gets more difficult as you go, so keep applying the kero to keep things fluent.
We folded a screwdriver and ground it to a blunt point, but a really small flat blade was just as good if not better. The kero will make a big mess of the body, but dip a rag in the kero and wipe over the body and she'll be good as new.

I bought the rubbers from woodsies, i think i needed 9m and it cost about $100. anyone that stocks spectrum rubbers should be able to obtain them tho.

ok listen up to the ole timer ere and ill show ya how its done (the easy way) first size and cut ya holes second stick some paint around the bare metal (saves the rust heartache later!!) now the magic bit fit the seal to the glass then grab some nylon rope (about 4-5 mm thick) fit that into the outer groove of the seal all the way around starting in the middle at tha bottom then sit the window in the openning with the bottom edge and one corner in thr groove apply light pressure to the outside of the glass and slowly work the rope out pushing the window into place as you go (going opposite to the corner already inserted ) this method is usually much easier to do with two people   cheers Neil
