The headgasket went on my SJ last week so things have been slow on the van.

Well, I got myself a runabout to keep me mobile while I sort the SJ engine. I already had a engine in the pipelines, stripped and cleaned, My pistons arrived and I dropped it all off at the machine shop on the weekend to be bored and crank ground.

My runabout, £350. 100k miles, 1.4l

Needs attention though, since getting it on tuesday last week its had 2 new tyres, trackrod end, bit of tidying of the front where it had been bumped, sloppy gear linkage sorted and its getting a new fuel tank as soon as it turns up, old on is leaking.

But anyway, on with the van work....

Made some templates and started cutting and bending.

Then made the metal parts.

Then the centre part. (not as straight forward as it looks dues to the very gentle curve in the bumper)

Then clamped it all up to the bumper and welded the three parts together.

It looks totally badass if I do say so myself.

Its still just clamped on at the moment, theres more to do yet.

ha, yeah it was overcast that day but its been pretty good for april though.

I dont blame you for leaving, most people here are uptight, money obsessed maniacs always rushing round and wasting their lives on crappy stuff like flatscreen tvs.

Suterman, since you were doing all that work, I would have lost the plastic bumper ends and made it all metallic, welded together in 1 piece..

I see your point but I've done it now....

I got some stuff done today, its been difficult fitting work on the van recently with my work schedule and also fitting in with welder availibilty and not being able to grind or weld with polishing going on etc....

But Saturdays seem to work well for both of us so I am making the best of it and going back later after tea.

I was running out of Mojo and stamina for the job, I've done most of the larger bits of fabrication its just the fiddley edges and fininishing off to do...

Today I trimmed the rear arches to their final level.

I asked Alex for his advice on where to end the arch, I added some metal to swoop the bottom of the acrh rearwards...

And the other side...

As plans were changing I cut this off.

And cut some bedford metal out to make room for a new flatish closing plate. Thats as far as I got today, I'm going back in a bit.

Also fitted one of the old steels to see how different they were...
