that is looking Orr-Some. I have made a cardbord mould of the front flare to go onto my van looking very similar to what you have achieved I have been able to bring it lower over the front tyre similar to what shows on the back. But I forsee I am going to have more external curve so that I can achieve the suspension travel that ben is talking about I will attach photo shortely

Ben, your post is correct, but not sure about the filler product, over here it's goes by the name  F904 Adhesive Filler by Nuplex this is the maximum adhesive. You can contact Fibreglass International ABN 2500 045 572 - 49 - 61 Stephen Road, Botany, NSW, Australia, and they will have the correct name if you state it is known by this at Nuplex New Zealand. But by the sounds of it Ben, this is what you have done.  Cheers mate. You are right this way I have used alot and no problems as for the mix rate it is 1 litre of powder to 1 litre of resin.

Phil, The problem with the front gap is the wheel is smaller than the rear one and the arch is bigger so the gap looks massive, also clearance for steering/ suspension travel is vital.  I need to increase the gap on the rear arch I made the panels about 1 inch too thick at the bottom on purpose so I can fold a lip on. the front arches will also have a lip but it will be welded on.

DON'T PANIC!

I went back and did some more work under the instruction of my mate Alex (Body shop guy)  this evening,

I started off by drawing confusing lines all over the place.

Then, using a 6" adjustable spanner I started to bend the edge over bit by bit, shrinking it as I went.

I got to the point where I had to take the wheel off to bend any further so took my time, I took the wheel on and off quite a few times in the end.

I kept on with the spanner for a bit then used a hammer and dolly to flatten and further shape the lip right round to clear the tyre with the spring fully depressed. I left the top bit less flattened to give more rigidity. With the van jacked right up with the jack under the axle on the side I was working on It was easy to check for clearance. It was too tight to start with and was rubbing on the tyre so I levered it out gently with a crowbar.

That should just about do it.

I am much happier with it than I was yesterday but it still needs a lot of work.

That is coming up mint. I have in the past on the front guard of an old cortina used a metal baseball bat to put a roll on the front arch. Got a few mates to sit on the front of car ot keep the pressure on the guard and the tyre and it made a really nice edge instead of using a spanner. It allows it to mould aropund the tyre using the baseball bate take oput the spanner kinks.

Just a thought

Hey Suterman,

That's lookin pretty cool. Like the shape of the rear flares. One thing I would have done before rolling that lip under would have been to clean up under the guard and cover it with etch primer or similar just before hamering up the final shape. Looking at the photo's it looks like bare metal under there and you don't want any water tracking down between the guard and the lip.

Looking forward to seeing the end result. Going great.

Cheers,
Garry.

Cheers Guys.

We ground off all the paint before we started, there was some rust coming through on the original arches.  The whole area will be thoroughly treated and undersealed dont you worry. ;D

coming up a treat, metal is good
make it reliable, or smash it with a big hammer
