Ok its the biggy.

I've always been rubbish at painting cars and stuff, never been able to get anything like a good result so I decided to get some help.

The wife and I got this LWB CF2 in march 09. its pretty rare to find on in such clean condition, it only had 11,000 miles on it when we got it (now 19,000) anyway its got some rust round the screen, rear hinges, roof, roof gutters arches, bonnet and under the bonnet at the sides on the flat plates above chassis rails and although it only minor at the moment,  its only going to get worse, the van has a factory paint and a respray by the camper conversion company and the respray is starting to show signs of wear. Along with other dings and scratches I manage to put a nasty dent in one of the rear doors this summer.

The paint is going to be similar to now, two tone silver and gunmetal grey but using a GM and Honda colours.

Other than the respray, the van is getting custom made steel arches, front valance and side skirts to complement the Slotmags.

I also want to fit different seats as the old ones are not so good, I was thinking Volvo 740 seats would be nice.

New carpet and sound deadening in the floor.

Recovering of the door cars and dashboard cradle thing to bring the upholstery up to date a little.

Some reworking of the cabinets to incorporate the 12V cooler box and make more use of the space available, chucking the 2 ring hob and grill as its taking up space and we only use the portable gas ring (aerosol type) and BBQ for cooking anyway.

Intstalling 7" DVD screen in the back.

Slightly less goofy wing mirrors.

Any more suggestions?

The Van is now at my mates shop, Emptied out, carpet is out, I have started stripping small things off, It will be started on properly next week when it goes indoors. ;D

Hey Guys, I'm also looking at putting flares/arches on my CF shorty, but I was talking too a panel beater about fibreglass ones, and blending them into the van, but he seemed to think moisture would get in and it would rust b/w. And that they only do that on show cars that don't get driven/ go near moisture,  He said I should just mount them on the outside.
But here I am trawling through all these photos/ gallerys and they are all glassed on. (I dont like the idea of just sticking them on either)
Have any of u guys had any problems with this, or is this panel beater just old fashoned,
Cheers Owen

The panel beater could just be being lazy.

I have recently spoken to a panel beater about getting stell ones put on and he was going to weld them and make them smooth etc.

I have also put fibreglass ones on my first van and have had no problems one of the things I was going to do with the fibre glass ones was also fibre glass the underside of them in around the wheel arch but I never got around to it and they are fine. The rest of the van is stuff now though thats why I working on a new one :)

owen you can get bolt on flares, readily available. i asume you dont have a CF2. i know a bloke that sells them:) ill pm you his number.

and yes if you fibreglass flares on you will create spot for moisture.

every time ive pulled a flare off a van that has been glassed on i always!! find rust.  i dont know how to overcome this problem. either go full fibreglass (cut the guard off) or full steel i guess. or bolt ons. im sure there would be a way to protect the metal but im not sure what.

the problem is that fibreglass doesnt really stick to metal that well, so you need to bring it back to bare metal for it to adher, then it will seperate over time and condensation will sit in there and make things rust.

Come on Ben it's time to catch up with the times ;D, Epoxy resin and mico fibres mixed together  to form a adhesive filler to stick them on with, will last 20+ years with no moisture and sticks like shit to bare metal, couldn't even seperate the two with a hamer, and ofcourse no rust will form. If you just rivet the flare on then glass over the top with Polyester resin and matt if will crack and lift and also let the moisture in that will turn to rust in time.
