Windscreen and rubber
« on: November 22, 2009, 11:38:07 PM »
Hey fellas, i know there are already few threads, but nothing seemed to sum it up specifically..
I'll be looking for a new windscreen and rubber in the very near future..

Are the windscreens and rubbers the same on all CF Bedfords? For example, short and long wheelbase? I have a '71 Long wheelbase if that makes a difference.

Also while i have your attention, has anyone seen the rubbers from scotts auto rubbers/spectrum and the rubbers from rare spares first hand, to know whether one is better than the other?
I'd rather spend a little more and get a better seal than to end up with leaks.

If anyone has spectrum or rare spares rubbers and would be willing to take photos of the rubbers so i can see the shape of the seal extrusions(not the shape around the frame), i would be very much appreciative!

Cheers in advance
Matte

Hey MatteI bought a CRX windscreen from woodsies W/SCREENS IN DIANELLA $380. I think,  my screen is still on the shelf if you want to have a sticky beak (NOT FOR SALE) but these new wscreens are 98% uv & heat resistant.  it will cut out alot of the suns heat and rays as we all know how much sun thses screens love to collect. Cant wait to fit it to my shorty,  and see the difference . Call me tomorrow or txt (to remind me ) at 1700, and I will take a photo of a rare spares rubber. Dano 0448 993 742

hey mate, i just saw your post.
The screen sounds interesting, do they just put a film on it or is it a different type of glass?
Do they make these for the bedfords too?

I spoke to Novus a while back and they said it'd be $220 for a new screen i'd be guessing it's safety glass.

But yeah i'll call or text you at 5 tomorro just incase you can get some pics of the rubbers.

Cheers
Matte

hey warren, yeah i  made the mistake of responding before looking at the pictures... but yeah it says in the pictures that its a tint, so i'd be interested to know how much the service would cost on another screen, and also the legalities of it all.. it looks quite dark, however it would probably be much lighter when mounted.

Hey Lads, yep CRX is the latest thing in w/screens, not a full bottle on the in's and out's , but when I went into woodsies this time (2) yrs ago , APPARENTLY they weren't making the laminate screens any more (by law) and this was the , now std replacement for V hickkles .....

here's some piccies I promised. Rare spares W/screen seal........ I'm pretty impressed with the Quality but then again I haven't put it in yet ;)

Hey Dano, champion effort! This is very helpful. The windscreen rubber looks a little different to the one that's just come off my van, mine isn't in overly bad condition, but i'd still rather replace it. I'll deal with it when the body work is done. So all of those rubbers were rarespares, despite the seal yourself  lables?

The CRX screen has me very interested tho! I need a new one as the huge chip in mine is asking for trouble..

Thanks again!

Hey Dano, i used the same windscreen rubber on my van and it fits like a bum in a bucket - no probs at all. Do you know if rare spare carry the baily channel that goes along the top of the door frame? It is so much bigger than the side ones.

Hey fellas, just wanted to follow up on  this thread..
I got a quote from Novus and Woodsies.
Novus couldn't do the rubber, Woodsies was $150, Rarespares $168 or something like that..
The woodsies rubber is a rarespares rubber.. go figure..

Woodsies could do the screen for $270, but wanted $120 to fit it.
Novus did the screen and fitting for $275, now they did sponsor the race car a few years back, so this may have been a good price, but the same guy told me $220 about 8 months ago..

The screen we got had the green tint like Dano's, it is far lighter than i imagined, which is great.

Novus organised 2 guys to fit the screen, only one turned up, he'd never done a Bedford before, but between me and him the screen was in sitting perfectly in under 10 mins ($120/10mins = $720/hr) not bad woodsies.. hahaha

Anyway, i hope this helps someone along the way..
