holden 202 an 3speed, whats the easyest to put in place of it?
a celica 5speed, or an aussie 4 speed.
as i dont know much, but love the learning along the way.

something to unbolt an bolt up would be great.. even if i had to cut a new hole in the floor for it..

please help..

the reason i suggested the above, as i herd they were easy?

otherwise anyone fancy the job in SA..lol

the aussie 4 speed is a bolt up fit, to where a 3 speed was, with the 5 speed has a diffrent tail shaft, clutch, bell housing and more.....
on another note, the 5 speed is an overdrive, were as the 4 speed is 1 to 1 top gear...
make it reliable, or smash it with a big hammer

I started with

a 3 speed box...

easily changed it for

a 4 speed box

then
changed it for a Celica 5 speed box...which as mentioned is a lot more work...but well worth it!!

i reckon  a overdrive pays for itself in the petrol u save ..

The 4 speed is a pretty good option if you mostly do stop start driving, so long as your diff is a highway diff.

I think its the M21 that has a taller 1st gear otherwise they are much the same.

it sounds like you need the 5 speed, 3 and 4 do exactly the same thing in top gear... or you could change the diff to highway gears, that could help you get to the speed limit

so if i changed from a 3 to a 4, does that meen i can then go 110kms instead of the boring 80kms, i can do 110kms now but it use's like twice the amount of fuel, an the motor wines like hell

NSW bit of a drive - but if you put it in. my miss's likes the idea of a 25hr country drive (dont know if i do tho..lol)

Did you think about swapping the diff instead. That's the actual problem with the high revs. That will give you the biggest improvement.

Sounds like you have the high ratio diff still (4:1) the highway diffs run around the 3:1 so as RT says a diff change may be a better option, combine the 4 speed box and you would have a good setup.
