excellant .. thanks marky! I think I checked your beddy out in Mullum once years ago too .. maybe 2001 2002?

Did you chance to check the floor?
I have a residual fear after seeing the other camper that is on here from one of the Buga guys ...

have sent an email to this girl anyway .. waiting to hear back ...

cheers, Joe

Hey Marky,
you said you checked this wagon out a few months back in mullum.. ? was that before or after they painted it..?

I have been speaking to her loads this last few weeks and am thinking of taking it ..
normally I dont like campers .. in any kind of wagon.. they never seem practical to me .. but this one has a good set up ..
and I am going to be living out of it 3 - 6months of the year ..

she has spent quite a bit on it over the years ... had it 10yrs ... and treated it well .. (except for the oil leak that drenched the underside with oil for 6 out of 10yrs.. but as that is such good rust protection .. I am happy with that also)

in the last few months they have "fixed" the rust and repainted it ready for sale .. as well as a few other things ..

you said it had rust in the usual places.. from the pic she took and sent me .. it is in the side door pretty bad but not showing yet outside .. and also in the driver door .. again just around the bottom with the drainage slots..
something that both of my other wagons had..

and a spot that has come through above the rear passenger arch .. they say they are going to cut it out and replace the section for me if thats what I want ..

I want to know if you saw anything other than that?

especially around the rear end ..
and generally if you thought it was a good wagon..?

cheers,

joe

I didn't get it!

Got all the way there .. put a deposit down .. took it for a drive .. and sadly .. she is not my girl!

She felt sluggish and weary .. and not what this little red fish needs right now .. am very sad because I was so keen and ready .. but the extra work it needed was going to make it more than it was worth and more than I can do at this stage ..

It is still a pretty good wagon .. but really the interior is its winning point .. incredibly practical and comfortable camper set up .. and in general I am not a fan of camper set ups ..

But in my opinion it needed a new diff right off.. the gear box sounded like it was totally overworking and had for a bloody long time so that would need a reboot soon too .. there were quite a few more bits of rust than were presented .. and I asked for detail on rust .. all managable .. but cant be doing so right now ..

doors had always been slammed .. so none were closing properly anymore and window fittings were shaking loose now also .. gear stick needs to be refitted as is pretty loose and hanging off .. needs new pedal pads ..

just felt sloppy, old and heavy ..

brakes with a judder still.. turning circle felt very odd ..

mm.. and there is now a bloody big left hand rear light dent with contorsions from where she backed it into a container ..

The girl is great though ! They did there best to bring it up to being a good wagon to sell .. but I think it was a bit of an 11th hour patch up and cover job really ..

I know I am being a bit particular .. but I have to be real about what I take on right now .. and it has to feel right .. cause I love the drive .. and want to enjoy it and feel safe in it ..

and my bedfords always felt surprisingly nimble .. so not sure I can take on a snail that I cant easily bring up to scratch ..

so.. very sadly ..

back to the search!

Please let me know if there is any lwb dual fuel with good diffs come up!

gutted camper would be perfect .. cause I like that pop top thing .. never had one of those before !

and let me know if anyone else is interested in this white one that I have left behind.. it certainly can be made great again .. but there will be lots of little things and a few big things to do for her!

joe.

Sorry to hear that, but you do realise that a fully fitted out long wheelbase will be a lot heavier than a SWB.

I have only driven a LWB once and they by nature are not as nimble as the SWB due to the wheek base the turning circle is greater.

Others with more LWB experience mught have more insight.

I used to be vague..................Now I'm not so sure

i have a lwb right now joe, but before this one only really ever drove swb's except once i drove a standard lwb with orig diff, now it felt mainly the same to a swb, i think orig the lwb is about 250kg heavyer than the swb, but i guess its all the extra stuff that can go in them that makes them much heavyer.

yeh i dont think there is a lot of difference, the turning circle is still reasonable, althou not as good not heaps noticable, and lwb is much more of a touring bus!!

cheers
ben
