cant see how that would damage the pump,
like it would be full n pumping within 30 seconds after starting wouldnt it. and would have residue of diesel in thereto lube for that time.
not like it would be running for 30mins without diesel in there to lube.

Would you run your engine without oil in the sump for that long?  I understand what your saying about the residue fuel  but it only takes a small slither of metal to come off the cam or a plunger  in the injection pump to start major damage, why take the risk and run it dry for any period of time?

no, definatly not, but theres a big difference between an engine n a injector pump i think.
plus i thought we were talking about putting startyabastard down its throat after the injector pump had been primed???
but no worries.
so is that the only damage startyabastard does to a diesel engine?
stuffs the injector pump?
just thought id ask an expert, as i know nothing about diesel engines
and plan to have a few in the comming years.

LOL  I'm hardly an expert, I've worked as  drill rig fitter for a while so you could say I have played with  the insides of diesels more than most.

I've had the pleasure of  changing out a few injection pumps Presumably as a result of runniing out of fuel. Only seen it a few times so Unlikely I guess.

My interpretation of this thread was that the idea was using start ya bastard to run the engine until the fuel system primes up again so soz if I got that wrong.

fair enough,

yeah the most ive had 2 do with a diesel was to replace 1 liner ,piston n rings.
and relap all the valves in the head, new gaskets then put back together. 

ok so my question still stands
what does startyabastard do to a motor to stuff it.
any takers?

a mate of mine frank let his pisshead brother in law johny change the sparkplugs in his 115 hp johnson outboard, he crossthreaded 3 of them n tightened them up full. Aluminium heads.

anyway it was my mate that lost it and got a bigass sledge hammer and went beserk. the only thing salvagable was the S/S prop when he,d finished.

i recon its quite possible of dying from laughing,
far out if ever i nearly died laughing it was that day.

i also felt really sorry for frank 2. poor buga.
i would have been chasing johny trying to hit him with the hammer.

i went into a super cheap auto car parts shop once and asked the guy at the counter for a can of startyabastard,
n the guy beside me said  can ya get me a can of stopyabitch while ya there mate, my wifes on the war path,
