Hinge suggestion for gull wings

Yeah Bas that was my 350. I ended up selling it with the trans & diff. It was sweet gear but not suitable for the runner Im building.

Gull wing advice needed..

Benny had an idea to use bonnet hinges for the gull wing side door on my new beast...GREAT idea in theory, but after a long time of ponderment, I think the door will open too low and not be flush with the roof. After some googling, I found the following diagram from the chev van forums. I think this will work, as i want the hinge mouted to the inner channel rather than the gutter. I know this picture isn't a Bedford, however I think the 'idea' will work.



Standard hinge, cut to size and then bent at particular angle to accomodate travel for the door to clear the gutter.



What do other Beddy bretherin rekon? Any advice welcomed

Unfortunately Mark your drawing isn't accurate.

There isn't a large bulkhead on the inside of the van like your drawing shows neither is there the upright piece of steel on the top of your door where you have the hinge attached.

Although this picture isn't the best you can see where my hinge is mounted. The hinge is welded flush to the top of the door. The bulkhead you show on your drawing is only a very small lip and certainly nowhere near enough surface area for the non-existent upright you show on your drawing to sit flush to.

Rougue, as I mentioned in the post, this isn't a drawing of a Bedford. It was only illustrate the usage of the hinge. The hinge would go on the back of the side door, where the inner skin comes out and the angle would give it clearance from the gutter.

Im thinking of using the hinge (or similar) set up as the old kombi vans rear hatch. It lifts & moves the door up and over the roof so that if its raining the water runs off the door and into the gutter, not inside
