Brakes and all esp Master cylinder

Ok guys, well i got the van to Brakes plus, who have done a quote on getting my brakes all done...and man am i screwed:( But i cant afford to rely on people who offer me a good price wether its friends or strangers....3 times ive moved this van only to not get what i expected, and from friend to foe...so its across the board.

Anyway, the most expensive item was a new Master brake cylinder thingy....$1200 thats NEW not Recond.

Im sure everyone is gunna know cheaper places, and better prices and such and such, but at this stage im all out of faith....so if anyone has brand new or atleast reconditioned brake parts for a drum CF 76 SWB van, possibly you decided on disc and never used it or something along those lines, then please let me know, preferablly Victoria...

Yes i know everyone else goes disc brakes....but as i said....i cant go thru all that again...im barelly hangin on as is.

they put new sleeve in works great...dont get ripped off

disk brakes on front are as easy as picking up disks, calipers from the wreckers and ordering the kit from the rod shop...

didn't someone mention its cheaper to take in your old drum brake shoes and get them recovered then telling them they are bedford and ordering new ones?

no way in hell would i pay that much for the booster... go the re sleeve!

Well just by coincidence, i have been getting some quotes on new brake parts for my old rwd 1980 mazda 626. Now get this...I ring up a brake parts supplier in perth, and say i would like a price on a left and right wheel cyl for my rear drums on my mazda (they come back with $160.00 for the two.(shit ! i said that seems way to high) So i call into a Veale automotive parts shop just around the corner from me.."Yeah mate" we have 2 here $25.00 each!!! So i snapped them up! God damn! what a difference in price. So i will be buying the rest of the parts through them thats for sure.

the HQ master cylinder with bedford booster is a common conversion, I haven't done one, but the new camper has that set up, from what I have heard they only require a bit of filing off the mounting holes to fit. ASnd they will work for drum brakes as well as discs.

As for slave cylinders, get your hands dirty, pull them apart, clean them and then check them for pitting inside the bore.

Often they can get gunked up from sitting around for long periods, check the diaphrams/seals for score marks/wear, usually slave cylinders dont get heavily scored, more likely pitted due to water in the brake fluid and often a simple thorough cleaning, and a light hone will see them as good as new.

if they look OK then hone the bores and re assemble.

If they bores are heavily pitted or the seals seem worn, then take them to a brake specialist and ask if they have kits for them.

Bussiness will try and take advantage of your lack of knowledge, so ask questions, study what you want done, then you dont go in looking like a mark

All great advice for someone with mechanical knowledge.....for the first time today i saw inside a brake drum, he showed me both back and front inside, and there is heavy rust, and rust under neath the rubber thingy, like hard rust not just rust dust.

Brakes Plus is a specialst brakes place....now noone has actually said "Kirk i have a reconditioned/new one here for such and such price" noone has said goto such and such he has new/reconditioned ones for much cheaper....everyone has a do it yourself solution, or a modify this and that with a this and that.....

Now i dont think people understand just how little i know.....And yes i could learn it, or maybe teach myself over the next 10yrs how to build a supervan with my bare hands....but i dont have that kinda time, and to be honest i dont like getting my hands too dirty, if its not creative, thats just me.....sure if someone is willing to giveup there time to teach me, then im happy to learn...but there isnt that someone.....and people dont tend to be reliable anyhow.....Now if this was a poker game, i could teach you everything, hell i can tell ya what hand your playing before you even see the hand you made, because thats my specialty, thats what ive spent years involved with. Im not useless, im just not a cars guy, and if Bedfords came brand new, then id save for one, but they dont, so im in this position...

Again....all i need is cheaper prices for parts, that are bedford original parts or parts that fit, and the name of the store or the person i can go buy them from.
