The rebate is $2000 which is another reason I'm keen on going gas ;D

In WA the state govt also gives a $1000 rebate, so we get $3000 back in total! :)

And my battery is already relocated into the engine bay so all good - will be getting gas soon :)

Hi Adam S, Already have gas on Alien8, and the gas converter is just under the heater box on the passenger side and there's no room on the drivers side,  because of the water bottle, horn, and not enough room to get a battery in around the brake master cylinder and brake lines.  WHERE DID YOU PUT THE BATTERY. I couldn't find any more room.

Mines right at the front in the passenger side front corner of the engine bay

Hi Adam,  Yeah thats where they put the gas converter.  No room for anything else.  I will end up making a place for it in the front passenger side step.  Have to shorten the doors  first and put on some type of running board to step up into the van.  That shopuld be next years project, after the Van Nats in Geelong at Easter.
Nothing is impossible it just takes a bit longer

yeh in talking to roadworthy men they tell me that its not so wise to put the converter below the heater box incase you have an accident and the converter gets smashed and leaks gas.. on the other hand at least it doesnt get covered in oil as apposed to under the drivers side floor..

if you ring around you can find someone that certifys gas conversions.. just like if you were to do the work on your vehicle for a roadworthy.. you do the work for gas conversion then pick up the $2000 rebate after you have paid the gas man $70 to check it all over. not a bad little money earner huh.

the only problem is gathering information on gas conversions.. when i was first getting into it could not find any info on the web ay.. ive now done 1 conversion starting on my second this week..

cheers

i wonder if its allowed if you cut a hole in the floor to mount the gas tank half in the van half out.. like a sort of extension of the wheel inner tub or something.. get rid of the petrol tank and put it half in so that you dont loose much space inside but dont have the danger of the tank being so low to the ground.

any ideas on this one?

Ben

If you want to cut holes in the floor to mount the tank lower then you would have to make a cover to seal the back so that no fumes can enter the cabin area, you will also need to have a protective skin around the texposed bottom of the tank.

There's a few things to beware of before you do it yourself . Check out the guidelines:

http://www.ausindustry.gov.au/library/FINAL_LPG_CustomerGuidelines_V_2_11_15_02_0820080215014644.pdf

Two points that hit me straight away.......
1/ it has to be a private vehicle, Not sole traders, partners, etc, - sell it to the relevant spouse so it's registered in her/his name before conversion.
2 You can only apply if you can provide proof that you have paid to have the system installed. It is not sufficient to supply an invoice for parts and a compliance certificate.
You can install it yourself if you can prove that you paid yourself and provide reciept with ABN and other req'd details
