hydrolic lifter lock up?
« on: December 07, 2008, 10:24:37 PM »
G'day  been chatting to a few blokes , seems I might have hydrolic lifter lock up...my 327 was running fine but all of a suddern has been un able to start :'( running Delco remy electric ignition (soon MSD) have good spark fresh 98 oct fuel, re set plug gaps and cleaned, removed and re set new barry grant carb (after fiddling too much).... Havent been able to set exact timming yet need to fit timing tag (but remember was running well ) has a lge cam crane 280/480

when I try to start it wants to fire but sounds/feels like a week spark...flattened two new NZ70 batteries ....so close , just wont fire...AAAAHHHHHHH!

Any ideas???
Can I go play now...?

sounds like retarded ignition timing to me was your dizzy tight when you gave her a few lusty revs????  ;).ive been in the game for 27 years and never heard of lifter lockup.I would go back to basics and make sure your leads are timed right ie;No 1 at tdc and go from there give me a call if you need help        Neil

Conclusion.......yep, Melin....right again, started from the beginning, bang fired up straight away, also think it was old fuel, read an article (boating) about stored fuel ....seems todays fuels become "heavy" if stored for longer periods than 3 mnths, the "light" fuels evaporate leaving heavy fuel / meaning very rich fuel fowling plugs very rapidly. the old rumor of adding metho to fuel to eliminate moisture, correct with leaded fuel but not so necessary any more, just dont let it sit for long periods!

Cheers Dano.
Can I go play now...?
