My Bedford Journey n education
« on: January 20, 2009, 11:20:27 AM »
Me N my van have taught each other lots over the past 3 years

But we have come along in leaps n bounds in the last few months

I had this ....noise..rattle n shudders from my front end

I Replaced,

Ball joints upper n lower.....

Shock absorbers

Tie rod ends.....

Control Arm Bushes...

Had manufactured...

The Pivot arm bushes

Found out my chassis had a lil crack in it...welded it up....

Then still....this shudder ..rattle n squeak....

TODAY>!!!! i sussed it out.......

My disc brake set has play in it ......
the pins and housing ....where the pins sit ...are worn n move back n forth
Hence the shudder n rattle

$100 a side Caliper kits with new pins..get em sandblasted n reassemble

A lil lesson here...diagnostics is an art...im aquiring with age n patience
Im 35 n this is my 5th beddy
Ive learnt heaps about my van and its front end is now bullet proof...

WE love our beddys

Hi Mark, I'm a new member, I only just found this site due to not having a computer and generally being a bit of a gypsy living in my Beddy on and off for the last 20 years I've owned it. Anyway I've done almost all the conversions to cheaper parts you can think off except the lower control arms, I noticed in your blog you have re-newed your control arm and I am in need of a lower ball joint. I'm around byron locality and your in mullum. I'm wondering if you want sell your old ball joint ect or can you tell me were you got your new one and how much? Also i have a spare couple of upper control arms that I have converted to cheap holden parts if anyone is interested. It mite be quicker and easier if your can tex me(as I'm not always in mobile range) on 0402230577 I'll call you back, I'm sure we might have some good Beddy info to exchange also.  Dan.

Gday Dan

Welcome to the site.

Here are the part numbers for what you are looking for. Any parts supplier should be able to order in what you need.

Cheers

Craig

Dave this should help? I posted this on the old site so the prices may differ. I would think a 77 would have the BJ148

After a bit of digging through some old parts books here are the part numbers for CF ball joints

Any parts supplier will be able to order these parts. Or contact me and I'll order them for you.

Upper All - BJ24 @ RRP $97

Lower upto chassis CY636000 BJ268 @ RRP $140
41.5mm

Lower from chassis DY600001 BJ148 @ RRP $145
43.2mm

Tie Rod Ends All TE476R @ RRP $84.25

Tie Rods All RE5270

Craig

PS I have the installation tools I can post the to you. Just send them back when you're done.

Well after seeing Jocks  efforts with his diff...thought id better pull my finger out
n get this diff out of the bargain beddy I bought

Bargain beddys diff is wider than mine n only has 2 leaf springs

decided to clean it up a lil .....under the Dirt appears the name Borg Warner.....

 ;D ;D ;D

Bargain Beddy smiles upon me again ... whole van...disc brake frnt end..LPG...n now more

I kept seeing this beddy in the yard...he said no ...for ages...then finally ...he said just take it OUT MY SIGHT for a small fee

Buga working its community magic again
