Hi Guys,

I thought I'd pop up a quick intro after signing up last week.  I've driven older cars since I got my licence, generally 1960's and 1970's european cars and vans.  I am currently developing a business which is involved in the re-imagining of old furniture and bicycles ( http://www.suus.com.au ) and have decided that I need a more suitable work vehicle than my 1967 Volvo sedan.  I have had a cab-forward van in the past but do not wish to have one again as I would prefer at least some metal and air between my knees and an oncoming vehicle.  I have had a soft spot for a while for a Bedford CF that is used by a local plumber and after a bit of research decided that they would be ideal, so am currently on the hunt for a good usable example.

There seems to be relatively little information available online, so I would be very keen to know what can/needs to be done to get a Holden powered Bedford to cruise at 100-110km/h?

Also I would be interested to know what sort of fuel consumption can be expected? I don't expect it to be too pleasant, but a friend recently did a bit of travelling in a mk1 Transit and returned far better economy than I would have expected for a vehicle of that size.

Are there any parts that are very hard to get? Recommendations for things to look for/avoid in a Bedford CF which will be regularly driven?

Hell devilish too many questions at once haha You will need a 3.08 diff at least 2800 rpm at 100 kph or an overdrive gearbox Not sure of fuel consumptiom yet not game to check but not good Most parts are hard to get but most on here will help & what you cant get replace with something off a later model vechicle Things to look out for is RUST in hard to get at places & the wireing can give you greif & things to avoid BEDFORD'S haha Cheers Reid

quick tip with this one, when searching for parts outside aust, I have more luck dropping the Bedford & searching just Vauxhall cf

I will keep Vauxhall CF in mind.

2800rpm at 100km/h sounds very decent with that diff, my old Volvo turns closer to 3500rpm and the Jag XJ6 I just sold to make way for a van was around 25/2600rpm at 100km/h from memory.
