which series V6 motor is ideal for a conversion?

Hello everyone....Can anyone tell me which V6 model motor is better for a conversion into my Beddie?. VN,VP, are the models that i can afford at the moment.The sort of info that i am after is what motors are more reliable considering some would of done some big miles.What sort of milage is too much for these things?.I would be looking at getting the whole car so that i dont have to hunt around for bits and pieces. Hi John, now im no mechanic, but we have always had Commodores and they have all been pretty reliable.

just a couple mof things to remember. the first model released in any make of car usually has a few glitches that they iron out over the next couple of models so the later model engine is usually the better.

the Vn wagon we had as a company car served us for 320,000ks before we let it go(we serviced it regularly) and I still see it getting around town.

others on here may have had different experiences with thiers so its best to get three or four opinions before you make a decision

for the record our current company car is also a commodore 2005model

Hi, Once again I'm back on line and hope this will help you out. The van that we have just purchased has a 93 VP , 3.8  V6 in it. It looks like a very neat and tidy conversion and I'm quite sure, if I put the persons email address on here, he would help any prospective V6 modifiers out.

I don't know a lot about the V6. But that for the series that we have which is the VS. It wasn't until the VT, which is the model after ours, that Holden sorted a bunch of bugs out. I will say though which ever V6 you do transplant, make sure you fit an oil pressure guage! We threw a rod due to an over heating engine that was caused by a faulty oil pump. The mechanics kept replacing and repairing the cooling system, of which there was no problem! The replacement engine is PUSS!!!!!!

If the engine is close to or over 100,000K make sure it has a new or you replace the timing chain! I've got a couple of friends whose chains have jumped and it's all over!

While we are on the V6 topic. FORD is finally about to drop the inline 6 and replace it!

Johno the vn -vp motor /box are the easiest to fit as they have cable controlled trans (not electronic controled ) and are much easier to wire up . I have done a few of these conversions you can call me if you need help        Cheers Neil
