The mk1 came out with 2 versions, the early had the push or pull inside door handle and the later came with the pull out inside handle (like the mk2), the mk1 also came in two different inside variations around the door handle/window winder.
The real early ones had the steel screw in panels with the 'lump' across the top section of the inside of the door, the later came out with a door trim (cardboard).
The mk1 doors came out with a thin steel door pull, while the facelift came out with a curvy hard plastic pull and the mk2 came out with a hard squared plastic one.

A lot of mk2's came out with black outside handles too.
The real early mk1 didn't come out with a key barrel in the passenger door

The outside shape and even the guts of the doors are the same.
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

The van is at the customizer at the mo and would rather get my own rather than swapping them over again but would be interesting to see if they are compatible
