Tail Shaft
« on: February 08, 2012, 07:04:33 AM »
Does anyone know if the tail shaft spline on the Trimatic is the same on the TH700 auto, looking at changing over my drive shaft and bearing from the camper to the Black Beddie to see if it sorts the proplem I've got, as both drive shafts are the same length, bearing may be in a different place but this is not a problem to correct this.

I can take a look for you if you like. I still have my old driveshaft at home from the 186 so it's only 10 minutes work to disconnect the new one and offer the old one up but I think you might be lucky.

I believe that the tailshaft is same spline.  I am in the process of gathering the bits for my TH700 gearbox swap.  I am going to chase up a Beddie tailshaft front section as the TH700 box is about 200ml longer in the extension housing than the Trimatic and i need to shorten the TH700 tailshaft to fit.  A normal holden trimatic tailshaft might be the same but I am not sure about the diameter of the Bedford tailshaft compared to the Holden tailshaft so i am sticking to Bedford bits.  Initial gearbox and adaptor plate for Holden 6 measurements are that it will go very close to fitting the original crossmember. (Not sure but the tape measure never lies ;D ;D)

Hopes this helps

Neil

Just checked and it is the same spline. The trimatic yoke went into the TH700 about a couple of inches and then stopped but I rather suspect that was due to the rust that has developed on the normally smooth outer section of the yoke. It certainly slid on fine. The trimatic yoke is slightly shorter than the TH700 one though.
