Im awfully tempted ..My old beddy motor home has been modified to 4.1:1

I still get confused in trying to work out what a different ratio might do for
its performance including top speed, getting away at the traffic lights from a stop
(no Im not trying to drag any one but if its real slow getting away everyone behind
gets upset) and how she will pull up hills etc a I live at the top of a large hill and she
makes it up in second gear. 

I have a Aussie 4 speed muncie box. (i hate it when the linkages get all locked up at times
usually when Im coming out of reverse back into first)

How much work is involved in swapping it over?

Do i need another engineers certificate? (I have a plate already saying its been modified for
4.1:1)
What condition is the gears, crown and pinion and shafts in it like?

Whats the brakes like on your one? Looks like its been sitting outside in weather for yonks 

Sorry for all the questions but I would need some confidence before I decided to proceed with this project.

mate says his van with 4.1 diff in it can only get up to top speed 80km/h dunno about you but ive been driving vans with 3.5 diffs in them forever and cruise on 100 pretty good. dont wanna go too much faster thou. but dont need to g too much faster:)

we changed the diff ratio in our toyota bus and found when we went to a taller diff because we were travelling faster it made a huge difference getting up hills because to more momentum we had. looks like your carrying a fair amount of weight. would be hard hauling that with any diff. not sure how much power difference it will be. i think the gained top speed will outweight your power loss considerably.

its a straight swap over. pull old diff out put new one in. half a day for a mechanic a day for not too sure bloke.

no you dont need an engineers cert im told by roadworthy people in vic but coud pay to check your in New south where they got crazy rules.

diff came out of a running van. and while i never got it up to speed it seemed fine driving around slow. i can get a diff specialist to look at it for you if your happy to pay for it. althou there are none around where i live im sure therd be one an hour away or something. i have not pulled the diff apart so i dont know what condition its all like but salsbury diffs go for about 40 bucks on ebay so if you need to change ratio or change parts dirt cheap. no excessive slop in the pinion

brakes i dont know. cant even remember if they were working on the van i wrecked it was at lleast 2 or 3 years ago now. but just use the brakes off your diff. or just get cylinders honed and new seals and theyll be like new. last time i got 8 rebonds on shoes, all cylinders honed and new seals/ boots cost me 60 bucks.

its been in the whether for a most of the time out of the van but they are just as exposed to the elements under a daily driving van so thats not a worry.

when i bought the van to wreck it had 2 of the same hwy diffs obviously professional jobs and 2 of. this is the better of the 2 other one sold already.
