question about hway diff
« on: April 09, 2011, 04:40:48 PM »
Gday guys

I need a question answering,i'm fitting a hway diff with a borg warner centre into my swb autobox van, when i got the diff it came with a prop shaft made but its to long.way to long..so can i use the old prop shaft off my old diff? it seems to fit the borg warner flange ok but seems to be a little shorter in length when i bolt it all together...
when the original diff was in the flange sat right up to the seal at the back of the box,now it sits about 5-10cm away is this a problem?
see pics..or do i have to get a new diff made up?

also do you think i would get the van road worthly with a frt disc conversion and jelly bean mags on it here in brisbane???

thanks guys
build it and they will come

5-10cm or 5-10mm? Centimetres, no, milimeters, yes.
When i measured to get my prop shaft made up, my instruction was
1. Fully seat the slip yoke in the transmission
2. Pull it out 25mm
3. Measure the length

this 25mm allows the shaft to move "in" when you go over bumps (and also move out)
-Aaron
How can i say this without hurting your feelings...Oh, I know, I don't want your stupid things in my cool van

Wazzah

I had a new tail shaft made about 3 years ago, just measured mine, from rear of extention housing of gearbox to face of yoke same as your second picture 48mm.
had no problems
