Wipers
« on: March 03, 2010, 10:18:16 PM »
Hey fellas, can i get someone to take a close up photo of the windscreen wipers on their van(or multiple of you) I need to know if my wiper arms are original or not, as the end of the arm that connects the arm to the blade holder has broken. I want to replace it, but will need to know if it is a bedford part, or if i need to search through the wreckers to find the original car..

I'll get a photo tomorro, but i'd love some pictures if anyone has any.

Cheers,
Matte

there are several types that were used on bedfords for the blade end and i think 2 types for the mounts (where the wiper bolts on) - one is a small thread the other a big one.

I think i still have a few samples of each, i'll try dig them out
There are so many people out there who will tell you that you can't. What you've got to do is turn around and say "watch me"

talking about wipers, mine fell apart the other day, the clip fell of under the dash and the wiper arms jammed, at nite to make it worse. l cept putting the arm back on till l got home and in the shed, got a torch , found the clip, arn't they a pain the butt to get back on   ???

They are when the wiper assembly is still in the van. There were a few vans at the wreckers and I thought I'd grab a whole assembly for spares but it was taking too long to remove it so settled for just swiping a few of the clips as I had lost one of mine a number of years ago. Now I have a couple of spares. It's a bit of a nightmare finding a substitute for them if you lose one.

Hey fellas, the top photo is the broken plastic part at the end of the wiper arm, the lower photo is the undamaged version

Hmmm, I might be getting a bit confused here but what you are showing are the wipers themselves and not the arm. Those plastic bits that connect the wipers to the wiper arm generally come with the wipers themselves when you replace them and you can pick those up at Repco or Supercheap. When you buy replacement wipers they usually have 2 or 3 different types of clips for attaching the wipers to the arms and you just use the correct ones for your vehicle and throw the others away.

Hey rogue, you're right.. i went and had a look at some wipers at the local auto shop last night. They were fairly different to what i have tho. I'll have to take the arm in to see if i can get a better match.. Unfortunately most of the ones i saw were fairly chunky..

Hey rossie, you also were right.. The arm has been ground down, and im not sure why. I can only guess that it was to fit some previous wiper blades, as it is not a requirement for these ones.
I would actually like to get another arm as it looks crap having the arm ground away.. But again i need to know if the arm is a bedford arm of not..

Cheers
