hey guys, there is one thing that no one has mentioned yet, and this point helped me to go with the V6. I have a landcruiser 100, V8, and love the growling V8 sound, I just hate the growling V8 rego, up here we are looking at $1,100 a year for the cruiser.  That stings. It might be cheaper in other states, but combined with $1-40 ltr for fuel, and almost a $1000 a year for insurance, owning cars are getting somewhat a luxuary item.

Hey marty, stand by and i will give you a list of parts for the V6 conversion kit.

I got my conversion kit from Moree as well. As far as i know, the guys had very little trouble fitting up the V6 (to their own surprise) It came with all the bits including the wiring harness and even a template to make up the engine cover.

its cheaper to rego a v8 beddy in vic than a hyundi exel buy 100bucks a year. so that would be why george.

400bucks a year. for a registed 2 seater in the country..

500bucks a year for reg 4 seater in country (same as excel)

600bucks a year for reg 4seater beddy in the city

your in the wrong state george..

beddy capital of aus vic:)

hey Bas, nice van, when you do the underneath pics can you try to catch a reference point for us to follow, we will be dropping my van onto the motor on monday morning. From the pic of the inside, it looks like we do have to widen the hole, but could not tell if it was longer, a side shot showing the seat boxes may help. Is this van decked out inside ?

no argument there ben, got my light bill at 1300hrs yesterday, $800, and by 1700hrs, dearest anna bligh announced our power bills would be jumping a whopping $200 a year, or $50 per bill. This because she has bankrupted the state, she could'nt organise a hooker in a brothel, but the morons up here keep voting her in. At the rate we are going, when i do finish my van, i wont be able to afford to run it. lol

g'day George, i got a mate of mine to do it who works on all my cars. Dont know how well it would have gone if i just walked in off the street to someone i didnt know.

It hasnt been a cheap jog though - we're looking at 8k+ but thats including a full engine and transmission rebuild and a custom radiator support etc etc etc- sounds stupid i know but hey, i want to be able to get in this baby and drive anywhere at anytime and in comfort!! Having said that, i opted for the aircon instead of the Power steering -

One things for sure, i wont be selling her in hurry - i'd never get close to my money back!!

If you guys had the option of the later model Holden V6 or later model Holden V8, which would you choose and why?

I went with the series 1 V6 from a VN because apparently they had the most torque available out of all the Buick based V6's which is what you really want for the van. They are relatively simple to fit especially as the wiring loom to the computer from the engine is a complete loom you then just have to wire up the feeds from the dash components and trans.

Also the early V6's (NZ models) had no Catalytic Converters as we still had leaded petrol back then and the CC's don't like that so no O2 sensors to worry about either.

Although the Holden guys don't like it the series one had one of the main feeds from the radiator run around the side of the motor. See one of Bas's pics. This is great for mid-mounting as it keeps the feeder pipe nice and low.

Another thing of note is that the 3.8 V6 actually has a few more Kw's available than some of the V8's and they are very well known for being an economical motor. Even more so than some of the later models. There are also shedloads of parts available and they're cheap. Pick-A-Part always has at least 2 or 3 in their yard.
