Since getting the van I have been doing a bit of work to tidy it up. Though its in generally great condition considering most CFs long since rotted away due to the salty winter roads and almost constant bloody rain we get in the UK, I want to keep it looking as good as possible and prevent any corrosion that already exists from getting worse.

I have done all the normal servicing stuff, Oil, filters, coolant, plugs, leads, dizzy, rotor and ATF fluid (diff oil and brake fluid soon)

I have had trouble getting a good paint match for the van, I got the darker shade of grey ok but There are sooo many silver metallic paints that the chance of getting one bang on is slim.  I had a shop mix me some up but it turned out totally wrong.

Anyway, I have stripped the rear bumpers down and repainted them....

They're not fantastic but better than before with teh paint all scratched and flaking off.



Hammerited the front suspension to slow the tin worm (needs more)



Filled this rusty spot with JB weld, the van is going to the paint shop in the winter annyways to have the bodywork sorted where the rust is so this is just temporary.




Painted a few rusty spots on the bonnet where the PO had attempted a repair but quite frankly he would have been better off leaving it rusty





Thats it for now.

Theres not a lot around, on the road I only ever see the occasional old farm wagon apart from at agricultural shows where the restored stuff comes out for the day. As far as CFs, They all rotted away, there are some left here though (more than usual)

 but thats about it. We have very strict rules regarding rust (any significant rust affecting the strength of a component within 12" of a structural part mean the vehicle fails the annual inspection (MOT)) and though it could be welded most people just give on on that sort of stuff. (before the availability of cheap hobby welders)



I saw these at a show not too long ago (notice the crappy UK weather)








The engine is the Upright 2 litre (8:1 compression) with the 3 speed GM auto box. I just put a new front box on it as the old one was rattling and leaking, the increased back pressure made a hell of a difference, reducing the noise levels and increasing the torque though the range, though its not a fast vehicle it pulls along nicely at 80kph with more to spare and thats fine for me.

NICE WORK envious link I wish that rat rod beddy was here ,pity its got no side door.
