Gone Vanning Mad at Beach Hop
« on: June 18, 2009, 02:50:10 PM »
I think its bloody brilliant, vanning truly is having a revival.
When you spend a bit of time on here and surfing you relise just how many folks are now into it, are reviving older vans or what ever reason have just found it cool again.

Here is a thought how many of the group would be keen on attending the Beach Hop 2010 in Whangamata on the corromandel.
For those who havent been google beachhop.co.nz
Beach hop is NZ's longest runnning and most successful nostelga festival, taking place and taking over the whole town of Whangamata each year around late March.
The festival is all about cars, music, the look and everything 50-60's plus, but if its cool rides and great times.
This is a must do weekend.

It would be an awesome opertunity to promote vanning, have some fun, do some cruising, check out some amaizing rides and have a cool get together.

Last year we rented a big beach front house in Whitianga with a basment flat as well, so we could have a large group and we cruised over to the hop each day, it was awesome.

If your keen il start a separate thread and put some plans in place and find out if we can get the house again.

Hey Rusty,

Great idea mate. The only problem is that the Beach Hop is closed to pre '71 vehicles or US origin only. This was done years back to exclude holden comodores of all things. I've been in touch with Noddy (beach hop organiser) a number of times about this and got no where. We can attend OK but we can't enter our vans in anything (cruise, show etc) unless they are pre '71 or American origin. VANZ now has a good PR guy so we're going to have another go for next year so will see what happens. Don't hold your breath though.

Apart from that it's an awesome event and we should just go anyway, park up and enjoy the cars, music and atmosphere. I'm sure I could rattle up a dozen keen participants.

If you're coming down Auckland way anytime give me a yell. Be good to catch up.

Cheers,
Garry.

HI Gary
Im in Auckland now for about a week, so we should defently catch up mate.

Yep, knew we couldnt enter officially, but we can still attend and even turn up at the beach party.
Last year there were a number of vehicles present at the beach party that were most certanly not on the official list.
Because the beach is a public venue anyone can go and we can still all park on the fringe of town and get plenty of crowd interest on the show day.
We missed this year, but we should go next year, we should also think about a group showing for Kumeu 2010

My cell is 021 042 4975
Gimme a buzz or a txt and we'll sort out a time to come see you.
btw your face look familia, you dont have a trans am that you converted from left to right do you ??

Cheers
Rusty

Diffinately keen to catch up hopefully next week.

Beach hop is one that we should attend. I'll put some feelers out and see what we can arrange. The van Nats are in Christchurch next year at Easter and that may expend some peoples finances but it doesn't cost much and is an awesome weekend.

We're planning to hit Kumeu again next year. This year we had a site for 3 days and had 9 vans on display most of the time. Excellent weekend and heaps of fun. Got the word out and managed to get a few new members as well. Hoping to book the same site for next year and also hope to have more vans there.

Haven't had a trans am so don't think it was me.

Look forward to meeting up next week.

CU then,
Garry.
