bloody axles
« on: May 07, 2009, 08:19:31 PM »
desparately need some help here - removed the diff from the van - eeeaaassssyyyyyy. Do you reckon i can get those bloddy axles out - what am i doing wrong. I have:

Undone the bolts holding the brake plate onto the diff housing.
Tried getting it to move with a slide hammer
Found what looks to be some sort of circlip in the diff under the bearing - liftted it and still nothing
Just broke my sledge hammer trying

i give up!! does anyone have suggestions? would be appreciated.

Mezz

by the way, dont give a toss about the old diff, just want the axles!!

i used the oxy once but i wont do that again.. i dont think its good for the housing.. i just use an old rim bolted onto the axel. smak it real hard with a sledge hammer. most likely destroy the rim but youll get any axel out in my experience.. ive pulled out probably about 10 by now..

The tool that Worzel is looking at brought my axles out so quick and the upside, the bearings were removed without any damage at all - obviously a lot to do with the force of the slide being dead centre - as opposed to the way i was trying to do it. Highly recommend it!!
