V6 bedford

Just looking for some friendly advice.my old man has put me onto an interesting bedford for a enticing price.now my old man doesnt know a whole lot about bedfords(and neither do i for that matter).he tells me a bloke he knows is selling his v6 commodore equipped beddy.from what he tells me it sounds like a vn v6 auto and apparently it has a vn dash squeezed into it(a rough job).it drives and stops and the gauges work.it has a hq front en.d and rear stud pattern as well.its got wide chrome wheels and is in undercoat almost ready for paint(my fathers description).i havent seen the van yet but im going to go have a look ont the weekend and take some pics.the bloke is asking $1000.i dont know if it was eng ;)ineered with the v6 but apparently he drove it from sydney to where it is.about 8 hours so that may be a good sign that its a goer.reckon i should buy it

if engineered i would if not id think hard.. may have to do he conversion again if its not done right.

If you want to register it in NSW you will need to get it approved by someone on the list:

My advice is to carefully document ALL modifications done to the van and then find an engineer who will approve them.
Apart from the motor there is seating, wheels, brakes and driveline that may have been modified or that you want to modify.
To get a modified vehicle registered you need to have all modifications approved. A trap a lot of people get caught is to get the motor swap approved and then put bigger wheels on. When the Police pull you up you will get defected and may have to get your car re-engineered. From what I have heard Engineers charge a hefty premium when a defect notice is involved.
If the conversion has been well done you should be OK.

I am fully booked with work at for now, and am not in a position to take on your vehicle.

I suggest that you make contact with the other engineering people.

Without looking further into it, your conversion appears to be feasible (but will require the engineer to go through more checks).

It would also be appropriate to have brake testing done (unloaded and loaded), as well as noise testing.

You would need to use the engine emissions components from the original car, including air intake, muffler and catalytic converter (where originally fitted).

As a guideline only for engineering certification; be aware that the cost for basic certification may be in the order of $650 to $800 (or more), depending on the engineer who does it.
Additional charges may apply for any testing and follow-up work.

Please also note:
When discussing this job with an engineer, one of the important things he will require is all of the details from the Australian Design Rule compliance plate that is fitted to the vehicle.
It is likely to be a silver aluminium plate of dimensions 100x50mm, and has information stamped into it relating to make, model, approval number, date of manufacture, category, GVM, VIN, and seating capacity.

I agree about the need for great caution.  Before I considered my pending V6 transplant i spoke to an approved engineer and was given similar advice.  the engineer wanted to ensure that I was doing a proper job.  The days of 351 v8s into a mazda 323 are gone in NSW.

To buy a V6 beddie that has already had the work done and then get it registered legally can be  more headaches than you expect.
Apart from the V6 needing all the emissions equipment/cat converter etc the fabrication itself needs to be top notch.

The more that is changed the more headaches you are gonna have.   
By all means go for it if you want to but do it fully expecting a lot of headaches and expect that you may have to actually undo a fair bit of what has been done to the vehicle for engineering.
You might get lucky but that always happens to someone else and not to me when it comes to this sort of thing.

Thanks for the heads up guys.im going to have a look this weekend and ask the bloke about it.in another 12 monthes il be able to go for my blue slip ticket anyway
