Just bought 1977 CF250 Franklin camper

Hi Guys, just bought a low km (123k) 77 CF250 Franklin camper in amazing original condition thats hardly been used.
It has recond 202 and traumatic... I will put some pics up soon.
Franklin camper versions of the Beddy probably arent everyones favourite on here, but this thing is so original and cool with a good near rust free famous Beddy up front, and has the dual wheels on rear with what appears to be an original 9 inch Ford diff in the rear. Its been unlicensed since 2008.
Anyway i drove it home from Mandurah up to Perth no probs, but brakes feel very ordinary.
I am a Hotrodder at heart, and have LS engines in everything I own, and so have been wondering about possibility of jamming one in the old girl, as they are more economical than the V6, although after reading the many posts on here, may settle for Ecotech as maybe not as much cutting.

Anyway my main question on this post is brakes....
I want to/am going to keep the original rims, so does this limit my options to HQ, or will VT fit in standard truck type rims??
I havent pulled anything apart yet to visualize whats inside those drums, so am struggling with some of the info on here.
Is it just a matter of pulling off drums, adding caliper mount, then get HQ or whatever disc redrilled to fit over beddy hub, or whats the go, or is their better options... remembering std wheels.

The current drums are a little shaky at speed, and so would rather upgrade before trying to licence.

The vt disc won't fit over the bedford hub the hub and stud pattern is much bigger
I know what you mean about the brakes being a little shaky my old van used to pull to one side one week then  pull to the other side  the next week

I guess the biggest problem I have with it being a duellie, is that is has 6 stud wheels, so unless there is something that fits them, I guess Im stuck with the drums.
Im pretty keen on putting an LS1 in it, and it appears to be quite easy just using LS into HQ Tuff mounts and sump.

There is a guy in NZ here that does the disc brakes for the 6 stud wheels, it's a moulded cast hub/adapter he's made up - professional
