Oil Pressure Unit
« on: October 25, 2008, 08:27:37 AM »
I'm in need of an Oil Pressure Sending Unit to suit my 350 chev and HJ, X, Z GTS dash. I have been ringing around and nobody can supply. I can't finish my dash swap without it! :'(

Hi Joel, I'll check this out to see if the sending unit will operate my gauge.

Hey Ben. An oil pressure gauge is weel worth it! We lost the commodore to a dead oil pump. The mechanics couldn't work out why it kept over heating until it put a rod through the side of block. The Commodore had no gauge, just the warning light.

Thing is these sending units have to be somewhere cause people have been putting 350's into GTS's for ever!

Does anybody know if the HQ one will work in Hj, X, Z as the dashes are different?

Does somebody out there have both a 308 and 350? If so would it be possible for you to check if the oil sending unit on the back of the block is interchangable between the two?

Would be much appreciated!

Tweaker yes the Hq should fit the gts dash but it has to be a HQ gts guage( it will be a differant colour unless your dash is a HQ?) as I'm sure your aware they a combined unit with either amps or water temp.(can't rememer) check out ebay, and rare spares do them but you get what you pay for ( again combined unit ) but more to the point it'll be the same colour as in needle or back display, and it'll work with a warranty . If you don't already have the reducer in the side of your block I'll be very suprised (chev take a small gernal MANUAL sender unit) BUT I think the Holden GTS senders/dashes  might be electric  ???  One for Warren ....... It would still be wise and proberby cheaper to just installl a manual GOOD  oil/water gauge  and enjoy the look of the GTS. no one else knows they don't work ssssshhhhhh.. ;)   Thats what I did, wish I had photo's    BUGA.
Can I go play now...?

hi everyone! Thanks for all your replys!

The sender unit is gauge specific, so the HQ one while it will fit the block it will not operate the HZ dash gauge preoperly. As far as I'm aware all the sending units for these models are electric, meaning that they have a wire that you plug into the top as apposed to a tube for the oil/air to run through. I'm not interested in running an after market gauge at this point as I want to run with the GTS dash. I may in the future replace the original gauges with after market ones in the same locations keeping the dash looking standard, but updated.

I got some information from a fello vanner and I have ordered some parts from Rare Spares and once I have confirmed all is working, I'll post up the part numbers here in case it is usefull to someone else.

Blessings to you all!
