i take it your talking about air dry enamel?

i always use 2pac when i paint things,
each to their own though, ive got mates that still swear by acrilic,

take a sample of the colour to a car parts place that mixes paint and see if they can mix you some n put it in 1 of those pressure pack cans.
ask if they can mix enamel.

thrills, if you give it a good rub back say 400grit then from there stick to the same paint system( products from primer to clear) start with a good primer SEALER, two coats, rub back with 600 wet/dry (wet) then you can paint  and clear (2k)  or use acrylic, wich ever way you want to go. But a good primer SEALER is the key.... use a reputable paint shop and let them know what your trying to achieve ..... Dano
Can I go play now...?

Hey Thrills,...for D.I.Y., Acrylic Lacquer (cellulose) is probably a good choice.
Acrylic is the easiest to work with. Best for the beginner, very forgiving. It requires
more coats but you'll have less hassles. Proper prep procedures should give a good
key, providing the existing paint is sound.

Spraying 2-pack requires lots of precautions and safety gear. Better left to the pros.

Enamel is better for fiddly bits, engine parts etc. To use general purpose spraying-
enamel on the body, will most likely guarantee runs and sags.
I would prefer to use it on the front wrought iron front fence.
