pain in the @&S vk calais trans wont change gears
« on: September 09, 2008, 12:05:11 AM »
i have a sweet vk calais 3.3 as a second car, it was injected & drove well so i got to it to modify it for a hot cam idea that never happened, anyway i have since removed the complete injection system & added a inlet manifold with matching 350 holley, i also changed fuel tank due to low volume pump fitted. all looks good but now the trans will not change into second gear unless i give it a heap of excelleration to force it to change, ive replaced the vacuum module & replaced the vacuum hose from the inlet manifold to the module with no change still, theres no air leaks & motor runs fine, i simply dont get it as why it wont change, any ideas fella's???

definitely sounds like a vacuum problem. have you changed the vacuum hose to a non-vacuum type which might be compressing internally and sealing itself off?

much do you want for the old manifold and stuff?

Hi Bren no all the same, there was a thing i took off the manifold though, it was in the way of the holley accelerator side, i think it was efi vacuum thing, its left teo holes one abve the other but im told they are nothing to do woth inlet manifold vacuum, becoming a real annoyance.

you need to make sure that you have the box actually connected to the right spot on the manifold.
connect a small peice of hose to it and hold your thumb over it then start and reve the engine. you should be able to feel a stong vacuum. other than that every hold in the manifold that isnt being used needs to be blocked off.
make sure you don't use any vac lines off the holley for the gearbox as they don't always tap into the manifold vacuum directly.

which manifold are you using with the holley? if its a standard blue or black varajet manifold it should only have two connections you can use for vacuum.(both on top. one at the front, and one at the back)
