Pop top replacement!
« on: February 14, 2012, 09:11:31 PM »
hey everyone! currently in the process of restoring an old camper!

im wanting to replace the old poptop roof with a new/er one! is there anywhere in melb that stocks these?
doesn't have to be original, infact i'd rather fibreglass!

i'm also wanting to make it an automatic lifting roof.. does anybody know of anybody successfully achieving this, and how they went about it?

thanks heaps!
andy

Welcome to the site, I will try and answer your questions, but with little info it's hard to know for sure.

You dont state what type of top you have, wether it is a factory original or an aftermaket conversion, but I gather its made of timber.

You could copy the old one and sheath it in a layer of fiberglass to iprove its strentgh and durability.

You dont say whether it is a side tilt or lift up - Beddys had both types, but it would be possible to use gas struts to assist with the lifting/positioning, but this will depend on your specific situation.

Amore detailed description of your setup, preferably with pictures would help you get more appropriate advice.

Thanks Warren, appreciate your feedback!
Sorry I don't have much knowledge of all the different bedfords.

It's a factory original roof, lift up! Wooden sides with the standard plastic? top!

I've been in touch with ben off this site whom makes fibreglass replicas, although they appear to be a slimmer version of what I've got! That isn't an issue though, as I can just adjust the height with the electric roof conversion I'm doing!

I'll get some good pics of it tomorrow in the light! Thanks mate!

Btw, I also live in Croydon :)
